Ontario "King of Cryptocurrency" Faces Major Fraud and Money Laundering Charges
ChainCatcher news, the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) announced on May 15 that as part of a joint investigation into "Project Swan" by the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) and the Ontario Securities Commission, two Ontario residents have been charged with offenses under the Criminal Code of Canada. Aiden Pleterski, who calls himself the "King of Cryptocurrency," is accused of defrauding over 5,000 CAD and laundering the proceeds of crime. According to the Oshawa court, 25-year-old Pleterski faces these charges and was granted bail on Tuesday. His parents provided a $100,000 surety to ensure he complies with the bail conditions, which include surrendering his passport, avoiding contact with investors, not posting about financial matters on social media, and not buying or trading cryptocurrency. Colin Murphy is also charged with defrauding over $5,000. Pleterski was detained for a bail hearing, while Murphy was promised release.
