X cancels the NFT avatar feature for paid subscription users
ChainCatcher news, according to TechCrunch, X (formerly Twitter), led by Elon Musk, released its grand vision for 2024 on Tuesday, including the launch of peer-to-peer payments and more AI-driven tools. In the process, the company quietly removed the feature that allowed paid subscribers to set NFTs as their profile pictures. This feature was initially launched by Twitter's former management in January 2022, allowing Twitter Blue subscribers to set NFTs minted on Ethereum (ERC-721 or ERC-1155 tokens) as their profile pictures, displayed in a hexagonal shape. Users could click/tap on the profile picture to learn more about the NFT, including the NFT collection, contract address, TokenID, and the minting application. Now, X has removed all descriptions related to the NFT profile picture feature from its X Premium support page.Previously, the description of this feature stated: "As a Premium subscriber, you can customize your profile to showcase the NFTs you own and display them as a hexagonal profile picture on your account." Users who still have NFTs set as their profile pictures currently retain the hexagonal shape, but it is unclear whether X will eventually remove these profile pictures.
