CESS Project Weekly Report | Completion of Testnet Online Upgrade, Attendance at Hong Kong Web3.0 Standardization Association Annual Meeting
2025.1.13~2025.1.19
CESS is a decentralized data infrastructure based on a blockchain decentralized cloud storage network and CD²N network, supporting online data storage and real-time sharing, providing a full-stack solution for the storage and retrieval of high-frequency dynamic data in Web3.
CESS Network is a Layer 1 built on the DePIN concept, featuring decentralization, efficiency, security, privacy, and scalability. CESS supports large-scale commercial storage and can accommodate phenomenal decentralized applications (dApps); CESS supports the monetization of data and the free flow/sharing of data value, while achieving user data privacy protection and data sovereignty return to data owners in a trustless manner, thereby constructing a prosperous, diverse, and sovereign data asset economy new ecosystem.
CESS Project Development
Overview
This week, a significant online upgrade of the CESS chain was completed! This upgrade included a series of major initiatives such as the replacement of the storage network transmission protocol, the removal of buckets, and the upgrade of the substrate underlying framework, making the CESS network more stable and user-friendly! This week also saw the completion of deployment testing of the CDN network in the testnet, file upload/download testing, etc. It will be publicly available after stable operation; the development of the new version of the Merkle event backend was also completed this week, which will support new gameplay and points redemption methods, stay tuned!
1. Blockchain Network
The CESS testnet v0.7.7 consists of consensus nodes and storage nodes. Consensus nodes maintain the world state of the CESS network (by CESS Node) and serve as the "data certification station" (by TEE Worker) within the CESS network. Storage nodes are responsible for providing verifiable storage space and act as the "data storage pool" in the CESS network. Here are the updates for this week:
Consensus Nodes [v0.7.9-venus]
(1) Completed the online upgrade of consensus nodes in the testnet, releasing version v0.7.9-venus;
(2) Fixed the issue where TEE Node failed to parse on-chain information due to excessive block data;
(3) Completed the redeployment tasks after upgrading the TEE Node, with the number of available nodes continuously increasing as planned;
Storage Nodes [v0.8.0]
(1) Completed the synchronous upgrade of storage nodes after the online upgrade on the CESS chain, releasing version v0.8.0;
2. Products
CESS is committed to providing high-frequency dynamic data storage services and CD²N services for Web3, meeting large-scale commercial storage needs and achieving millisecond-level data retrieval and return. CESS pioneered decentralized object storage services (DeOSS), and the product ecosystem of the CESS network is gradually becoming richer and more prosperous, having already incubated innovative applications such as online file sharing tools (DeShare), public chain snapshot storage services, and CESS cloud storage. Here are the updates for this week:
Object Storage Service (DeOSS)
(1) Fixed the issue where the go-sdk could not parse block events after the online upgrade of the CESS chain;
(2) Completed the deployment testing of the CD²N network in the CESS testnet and user file access testing;
(3) Completed the development of basic functions such as file upload/download for the CD²N gateway SDK;
(4) Fixed the issue where the CD²N gateway could not start normally due to inconsistent configurations among various modules;
Official Website (cess.network)
(1) Completed the development of the new version of the Merkle event backend, which will support users in completing tasks in a more flexible manner;
Blockchain Explorer (CESS Scan)
(1) Fixed the issue where transaction records could not be read or written normally due to abnormal database sharding mechanisms in CESS Scan;
3. Feedback and Support
(1) Your feedback is crucial! Please submit issues in CIPs (https://github.com/CESSProject/CIPs) and share your thoughts with us! If you are interested in CESS, you can connect with developers in the CESS Developer Community (https://github.com/CESSProject), and we welcome you to share your experiences at any time!

CESS Testnet Progress
(1) According to data from CESS Scan (https://scan.cess.network/), as of January 19, the CESS testnet v0.7.7 Venus version has been released for 172 days, with a total of over 8060 successfully registered storage nodes and 22 consensus nodes, providing a total storage space of 61.96 PiB, with verified storage space of 45.92 PiB; if test users encounter issues during node construction, they can seek help in the official CESS Discord (https://discord.gg/cess).
(2) The latest incentive testnet Venus has officially launched on July 31, 2024! The incentive activities for the testnet are ongoing, and participating storage nodes will earn points that can be redeemed for mainnet CESS Tokens. The total incentives will be determined by the effective storage capacity of miners at the end of this version of the testnet. For detailed incentive rules, please refer to “CESS Officially Launches Testnet Venus, Innovating Decentralized Storage + CD²N”.
(3) On January 16, the Hong Kong Web3.0 Standardization Association Annual Conference was successfully held! The Executive Chairman introduced three standards: RWA, DePIN, and DeFi, aiming to support the Hong Kong government's Web3 industry layout through standardization. CESS, as a vice chairman of the association and a leading unit in DePIN standard formulation, was invited to attend this meeting. CESS Network, as a leader in the formulation of Hong Kong's DePIN standards, aims to provide technical support for the security of data services and user privacy protection in the next generation of the internet!
(4) The CESS testnet Venus has now been upgraded to version v0.7.9, while cess-node has been upgraded to version v0.9.0, mineradm to version v0.2.0, and nodeadm to version v0.6.0. Node operators (storage nodes, consensus nodes, and RPC nodes) are required to upgrade manually. Key points of this upgrade include: changing the p2p protocol to HTTP, removing the bucket module, and upgrading the substrate framework.
(5) This week, the "2024 Policy Summit Highlights: Trump's Call and Key Insights in the Blockchain Field" X Space event hosted by CESS was successfully held, featuring senior representatives from the American Blockchain Association, government policy experts, and industry leaders from Messari! The main focus was on reviewing the key points of the dialogue with Trump and analyzing his policy direction and trends for the future development of the crypto industry.
(6) On January 17, CESS Developer Relations Head Alex was invited to participate in the "Is Decentralized Cloud Storage Ready for Large-Scale Adoption by Enterprises?" themed X Space event. Hosted by Mizzle, Alex introduced how CESS meets the massive data storage needs and provides solutions for security, privacy, and data sovereignty!
(7) On January 17 local time, CESS Managing Partner Emily was invited to attend the Donald J. Trump Washington D.C First Crypto President Crypto Ball, celebrating this innovative and digital economy event.
