CESS Project Weekly Report | Optimization of P2P File Transfer Mechanism, New Features for Consensus Nodes
⏰ 2024.8.12~2024.8.18
CESS is a decentralized cloud storage network and CD²N network based on blockchain, supporting online data storage and real-time sharing, providing a full-stack solution for the storage and retrieval of high-frequency dynamic data in Web3.
The CESS data value network is built on the DePIN concept as a Layer 1 infrastructure, featuring decentralization, efficiency, security, privacy, and scalability. CESS supports large-scale commercial storage, capable of hosting phenomenal decentralized applications (dApps); it supports the monetization of data and the free circulation/sharing of data value, while achieving user data privacy protection and data sovereignty return to data owners in a trustless manner, thereby constructing a prosperous, diverse, and sovereign data asset economy new ecosystem.
CESS Project Development
Overview
This week, a feature to reduce storage space declarations was added to the CESS chain to prevent the issue of nodes being frozen due to accidentally declaring more storage space than their pledged amount; the p2p file transfer mechanism was optimized, and a fix was implemented for the issue where storage nodes could not increase their pledge when the signing account and the pledged account were inconsistent; this week also saw a fix for the issue where DeOSS could not upload files normally due to incorrect usage of the node selection module.
1. Blockchain Network
The CESS testnet v0.7.6 consists of consensus nodes and storage nodes. Consensus nodes maintain the world state of the CESS network (by CESS Node) and serve as the "data certification station" in the CESS network (by TEE Worker). Storage nodes are responsible for providing verifiable storage space and act as the "data storage pool" in the CESS network. Here are the updates for this week:
Consensus Nodes [v0.7.7]
(1) A feature to reduce space declarations was added to prevent the freezing of storage nodes due to declaring excessive space;
(2) Fixed the issue where the TEE Worker blockchain state could not synchronize quickly after changing the validator set on the CESS chain;
(3) Added distributed deployment of TEE Node DCAP remote authentication servers to provide more stable and reliable authentication services;
Storage Nodes [v0.7.11]
(1) Upgraded the p2p file transfer mechanism of storage nodes to provide more efficient data transfer services;
(2) Fixed the issue where storage nodes could not increase their pledge when the signing account and the pledged account were inconsistent;
2. Products
CESS is committed to providing practical storage services and CD²N services for Web3, meeting large-scale commercial storage needs, achieving millisecond-level data retrieval and return. CESS pioneered decentralized object storage services (DeOSS), and the product ecosystem of the CESS network is gradually becoming richer and more prosperous. It has currently incubated innovative applications such as online file sharing tools (DeShare), public chain snapshot storage services, and CESS cloud storage. We welcome you to experience them. Here are the updates for this week:
Object Storage Service (DeOSS)
(1) Fixed the issue where DeOSS could not upload files normally due to incorrect usage of the node selection module;
(2) Improved DeOSS documentation to adapt to the latest features after the DeOSS version update;
(3) Completed the upgrade of the Rust SDK and documentation writing, achieving SDK compatibility with CESS v0.7.7 Venus version;
Online File Sharing Tool (DeShare)
(1) Upgraded DeShare, further fixing the issue where user files could not be uploaded and downloaded normally;
Official Website (cess.cloud)
(1) Improved the display details of the official website page content and updated all referenced links;
(2) Completed the testing work for the CESS Merkle event, which is about to go live;
3. Feedback and Support
(1) Your feedback is crucial! Please submit issues in CIPs (https://github.com/CESSProject/CIPs) and share your thoughts with us! If you are interested in CESS, you can connect with developers in the CESS developer community (https://github.com/CESSProject). We welcome you to share your experiences anytime!

CESS Testnet Progress
(1) According to data from CESS Scan (https://scan.cess.network/), as of August 18, the CESS testnet v0.7.7 Venus version has been live for 18 days, with a total of over 4988 successfully registered storage nodes and 21 consensus nodes, providing a total storage space of 38.5 PiB, with verified storage space of 6.74 PiB. Test users encountering issues during node construction can seek help in the CESS official Discord (https://discord.gg/cess).
(2) The latest incentive testnet Venus was officially launched on July 31, 2024! The incentive activities for the testnet are ongoing, and participating storage nodes will earn points that can be exchanged for mainnet CESS Tokens. The total incentives will be determined based on the effective storage capacity of miners at the end of this version of the testnet. For detailed incentive rules, please refer to the article “CESS Officially Launches Testnet Venus, Innovating Decentralized Storage + CD²N”. For details on the final miner node test score rewards from the last round, please see (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/18HIJaJ74t5CVqPIEa7dtIKvD-kniVYvg_VhPwJJES3Y/edit?gid=0#gid=0).
(3) CESS invites you to join the IEEE P3233 international standard release conference! In February this year, IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) approved CESS's application for the industry standard proposal P3233 "Blockchain-based Distributed Storage Protocol Specification." To further promote the development of this industry standard, CESS will co-host the launch meeting with IEEE. (For details, see the article “Invitation | IEEE P3233 International Standard Release Conference”.)
(4) This week, CESS was invited to participate in "AMA: CollabFest 3.0 --- Making Changes Together 3." CESS co-founder Nicholas Zaldastani highlighted our technological innovations in decentralized cloud storage and decentralized content distribution CD²N network, and how these solutions promote the construction of privacy, security, and decentralized data infrastructure.
(5) The CESS Global Ambassador Program is ongoing! Over 631 people have applied to join. Join the CESS Global Ambassador Program now to enjoy multiple benefits. Please click “CESS Global Ambassador Program: Officially Open for Applications!” for more details.
