On August 31, 2023, CESS Incentive Testnet v0.7.0 was launched.

CESS officially launched the public test of CESS Incentive Testnet v0.7.0 on August 31, 2023, at 8:00 (UTC 0). So far, CESS has undergone 8 rounds of testnet upgrades, with over 6,300 nodes participating in the construction of the CESS network at its peak.

In the upcoming v0.7.0, upgrades cover multiple aspects including the multi-backup recoverable storage proof mechanism (PoDR²), proof of idle space (PoIS), decentralized object storage (DeOSS), and consensus nodes, showcasing the innovative achievements of the CESS network in continuously cultivating cloud storage technology. It also reaffirms that CESS is committed to becoming the fastest, lowest-cost, secure, reliable, programmable, and private decentralized cloud storage provider, offering truly usable and applicable storage infrastructure for Web3 and promoting the arrival of the interconnected era of data value.

Below, we will detail the features of this version from two aspects: major upgrades and optimization upgrades.

Major Upgrades

  1. Introduced an original design of the proof of idle space mechanism (PoIS), replacing the previous method of filling idle space, significantly improving the certification rate of idle space.

  2. The multi-backup recoverable storage proof mechanism (PoDR²) has added a service space snapshot verification process to address legacy issues — storage nodes can now validate even if they only submit proof of storage for part of the service files.

  3. Upgraded the SGX-based TEE Worker, including the following:

  • Introduced gRPC to replace the previous internal communication method of Kafka, enhancing the stability of message transmission;
  • Updated the p2p module, combining it with gRPC to achieve a simple and efficient remote service invocation function.
  1. Introduced a customer experience improvement plan, where storage node clients participating in the plan will anonymously share client log data to assist in improving testnet performance.

Optimization Upgrades

  1. Adjusted the DeOSS authorization function to support users in authorizing multiple DeOSS gateways simultaneously, enhancing user flexibility and scope in gateway operations.

  2. Upgraded the TEE Worker registration function for consensus nodes, achieving deduplication of registered node whitelists.

  3. Increased the time limit for challenge verification periods to prevent the entire process from being hindered due to a node not submitting proof to the TEE Worker.

Reward Rules are as follows

Storage Nodes

The total reward points for all storage nodes in CESS-v0.7.0 is 8,000, corresponding to 800,000 CESS tokens on the mainnet. The specific final points for each node will be calculated based on the percentage of the total storage power that node occupies. For example, if the total storage power of the CESS network at the end is 10,000 G, and node A has a power of 100 G at the end, then node A can earn 80 points this round. Please obtain the test currency TCESS required for staking from the testnet faucet.

Please note: Only nodes with a power greater than 1G at the end of this round will be considered valid nodes.

Consensus Nodes

The rewards for consensus nodes will be announced after the test concludes. Please contact the management personnel in the CESS official Telegram to apply for the required TCESS for staking.

The final points rewards for storage nodes and consensus nodes will be announced on the official CESS Twitter, with the decimal values of storage miner power calculated by rounding. Points will be awarded at a ratio of 1:100 (i.e., 1 point is exchanged for 100 CESS tokens).

Future Outlook

In the field of decentralized cloud storage, the series of technical updates brought by v0.7.0 provides developers and enterprises with more storage tools and services, helping them to more easily build and deploy applications on the CESS decentralized network, meeting the practical needs of commercial applications for large-scale value data storage and sharing. For node operators, the upgrade of the TEE Worker registration introduces innovative methods for filling idle space and the service space snapshot verification process, improving space utilization and certification speed, leading to a fairer, more efficient, and convenient node participation and operation process.

The introduced customer experience improvement plan will maximize CESS's role as a storage "notary," coordinating the supply and demand between storage resource providers and storage demanders, collecting client experiences and feedback through end-to-end sharing, continuously enhancing the security, flexibility, high performance, and scalability of storage.

Overall, the upgrade of v0.7.0 signifies faster data access speeds, higher system availability and operability, fairer participation of consensus nodes, and more efficient space utilization. The launch of v0.7.0 will bring optimizations and adjustments to the CESS network and inject new energy and potential into the field of decentralized cloud storage.
