Support the implementation of large-scale enterprise-level commercial applications. CESS has made new attempts in both mechanism and framework design.

The third phase of the Web 3.0 Bootcamp, hosted by Wanxiang Blockchain, officially kicked off on May 24, 2022, Beijing time! The selected projects this time include beoble, Gear, Hamster, Meta Defender, Polkadot Name System, Relation, SaaS3, Universaldot.me, Web3Games, Web3Go, and of course, our CESS!

At the opening ceremony, prominent figures such as Dr. Gavin Wood, founder of Polkadot/Web3 Foundation chairman, Du Yu, deputy general manager of Wanxiang Blockchain/Wanxiang Blockchain Lab, Anthony Day, vice president of Parity Ecosystem Management, Helena, head of Parity Asia-Pacific, and Hao Yukun, senior director of Wanxiang Blockchain, made appearances.

As the latest cohort of students, CESS also gave a brief introduction to the project at the opening. Below is the full text of the speech:

Hello everyone, I am Jessie Dai, co-founder of CESS.

I am honored to be selected for the 2022 Web3.0 Bootcamp and to represent the Cumulus Encrypted Storage System (CESS) at today’s opening ceremony.

I would like to express my gratitude to Wanxiang Blockchain and Polkadot for providing this training camp opportunity for blockchain startup teams.

CESS aims to establish the first decentralized cloud storage data network that can support large-scale commercial applications, providing efficient, secure, and scalable decentralized cloud storage infrastructure for the Polkadot ecosystem and Web3.0.

We often hear about Web3.0, but what is Web3.0? Web3.0 is a diverse decentralized ecosystem that uses smart contracts and blockchain technology to achieve decentralized storage, retrieval, transmission, and computation of data as infrastructure, working together with future explosive enterprise-level commercial applications.

In terms of decentralized storage protocols, there are numerous projects emerging, but most of them still need significant improvements in performance and user experience, and there are many issues, such as:

Data may be lost, slow data retrieval and return speeds, and difficulties in application integration.

There are many reasons for this, one important reason being that the underlying network designs of these projects were established early on and did not consider the possibility of large-scale commercial applications. To solve the existing problems, a reconstruction of the underlying framework design is necessary to improve the overall network performance and the user experience of applications above it.

Although existing decentralized storage cannot provide good performance and user experience, the market demand for decentralized data storage has been steadily growing. According to IDC and Business Insight, by 2024, the decentralized storage market will reach $1.2653 billion, especially with the development of NFTs, the metaverse, blockchain games, and decentralized streaming, which requires a cloud storage network that has performance and user experience comparable to centralized storage like AWS/Alibaba Cloud but is designed to be decentralized (i.e., achieving millisecond-level data retrieval and return speeds while being a decentralized protocol). With such a decentralized storage network, there will certainly be extensive commercial opportunities in the Web3.0 world, which is where CESS comes into play.
Let me briefly introduce CESS.

CESS is a high-speed, secure, and scalable decentralized cloud storage network developed based on the Substrate open-source framework.

The CESS network adopts a multi-module layered architecture, allowing for unlimited scalability without reducing overall network efficiency due to increasing demands from its own ecological applications in the future. It can provide friendly, open, and efficient API interfaces for traditional industries and Web3.0 projects, supporting enterprise-level SDKs and serving large enterprises.

CESS achieves centralized management of data based on decentralization through the following key technologies, becoming a solid infrastructure for the Web3 storage track.

  • First, CESS uses a random selection rotating consensus node mechanism (R²S) and an intelligent cloud space management system to coordinate network resources and loads.
  • Second, it ensures data integrity, security, traceability, and privacy through mechanisms such as CESS multi-replica recoverable storage proof (PoDR²), CESS multi-type data rights confirmation (MDRC), and CESS decentralized proxy re-encryption.
  • Third, CESS guarantees efficient local transmission and instant access to popular data through a content distribution network and caching retrieval mechanism, achieving a high-speed, smooth experience for on-chain interactions, allowing data retrieval and return to reach millisecond levels.
  • Fourth, CESS supports WASM and EVM-compatible smart contracts, allowing encrypted native applications to be developed directly on the CESS chain. Off-chain applications requiring decentralized storage, such as NFTs, GameFi, the metaverse, and streaming, can also use CESS storage through open API interfaces to co-build the Web3.0 ecosystem.
CESS has been in design and planning since 2019, with plans to launch the test network in Q2 2022, the mainnet in Q3 2022, and to complete the decentralized cloud storage online data sharing network by 2027.

To support the landing of large-scale enterprise-level commercial applications, CESS has made a new attempt in both mechanism and framework design, achieving what we believe to be the most efficient mechanism design under a decentralized architecture, and can even support some Web 2.0 applications with high data interaction requirements. Currently, there is no decentralized storage network in the world that can effectively support large-scale, high-frequency commercial applications. From day one, CESS has firmly chosen the path of decentralized commercial storage, believing that decentralized commercial storage can support more commercial applications and has more profit models, thus possessing greater commercial value.

Our wish is to provide a safer, more private, and more efficient decentralized cloud storage data online sharing network for the Polkadot ecosystem and Web3.0. The number and quality of developers in the Polkadot ecosystem are rapidly increasing, and its interoperability solution of parachains + relay chains will present a large public chain ecosystem with continuous internal loops and full external connectivity. CESS will continue to support the development of the Polkadot ecosystem and provide secure and efficient data services to promote the development of Web3.0!

The Web 3.0 Bootcamp is an entrepreneurial training camp and incubation program focused on blockchain innovation, aiming to integrate effective resources within the Wanxiang Blockchain ecosystem and the global Polkadot ecosystem, providing comprehensive support including technology, products, capital, and ecological cooperation for entrepreneurial teams related to Web 3.0 technology, helping teams build clear and sustainable business models and facilitating project maturity and landing.
