Vitalik: The concepts of "popup city" and "network states" still need to address governance and membership issues
ChainCatcher news, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin revealed that he still needs to address at least two major issues—governance and membership—before making his "popup city" or "network states" concept viable. On September 22, Vitalik spoke at the Network State 2024 conference in Singapore, explaining the theory behind "network states"—a movement where online communities come together to form physical communities and seek political autonomy.Vitalik stated that a popup city is a new medium, allowing for forward-thinking like in science fiction. Productive relationships need to be established between network states, as the tribalism seen on today's social media is zero-sum and ineffective.Vitalik concluded, "Popup city has market-fit products, but we need to address governance and membership issues more. To move further from here, the path depends on the goals; even if we have different objectives, we should strengthen cooperation and carefully consider how to collaborate."
