BTIG executive: Even with personnel changes at the U.S. SEC, there will still be a "jurisdictional dispute" in the future
ChainCatcher news, BTIG policy research director Isaac Boltansky stated that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is about to undergo personnel changes. If approved by the Senate, Paul Atkins will replace Gary Gensler for a five-year term. However, Isaac Boltansky warned that despite the personnel changes at the SEC, there will still be "jurisdictional disputes" in the future, noting that the agency and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission sometimes clash over cryptocurrency regulation issues because "there are too many cooks in the kitchen, and they can't agree on what they are doing."Additionally, the key question of whether cryptocurrencies should be classified as securities is still being litigated in court, which is beyond the jurisdiction of U.S. federal regulators. The next Congress will have a slight Republican majority, which may at least lead to clearer regulations regarding stablecoins.
