WikiLeaks founder Assange has left the UK and will ultimately return to Australia
ChainCatcher news, WikiLeaks stated on social media that on the morning of June 24 local time, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange left the Belmarsh Prison in London, where he had spent 1,901 days. He was granted bail by the High Court in London and was released at Stansted Airport in the afternoon, where he boarded a plane to leave the UK.ChainCatcher previously reported that WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was expected to be released after reaching a plea agreement with U.S. authorities, which would equate to the time he served in a UK prison. Assange will plead guilty to a charge of conspiracy to obtain and disclose national defense information brought by the U.S. In return, he will be sentenced to a 62-month prison term, which is the same as the time he served in Belmarsh Prison in London. Assange is an Australian citizen and will be free to return to Australia after his release.
