According to the GitHub documentation, Steel is a new Solana smart contract framework that provides helper functions, macros, and a library of code patterns for building secure and maintainable smart contracts on the Solana blockchain.In addition, the upgrade window from v1 to v2 has now closed, with over 75% of eligible tokens choosing to upgrade, which the officials consider a sign of the successful hard fork.
