Beijing Fengtai cracks down on blockchain game fraud case, 5 people defrauded of over 6 million yuan
ChainCatcher news, according to Beijing Daily, in January 2024, the Fengtai police in Beijing, after meticulous investigation, cracked a case where a network blockchain game was used as bait to deceive the public into investing in "virtual currency," defrauding 5 individuals of over 6 million yuan. The suspect Liu, in collaboration with others, falsely claimed that a certain blockchain game was developed by his overseas team, promoted it via the internet, and encouraged people to purchase virtual currency on "Coin Certain Website." Holding the virtual currency allowed players to exchange it for the in-game universal currency "H Certain Coin," which could be used to buy NFT digital assets within the game. The NFT digital assets would appreciate in value as traders conducted transactions, with expected returns exceeding three times the original value.Using the above rhetoric, Liu successively deceived 5 investing individuals into transferring money to his designated digital account. Later, Liu and others went missing, prompting the victims to report to the police. After investigation, Liu was arrested by the Economic Crime Investigation Team of the Fengtai Branch, and he is currently in criminal detention by the Fengtai police on suspicion of contract fraud.
