Recognize Yourself, Earn the Right Money: An Analysis of Cryptocurrency Investment Personality from the MBTI Perspective
Author: Shenchao TechFlow
Personality determines destiny, and personality also determines investment.
Recently, a stock market joke has been circulating wildly among friends:
A friend said that MBTI can represent stock trading styles well.
E is always asking around; I is focused on research.
N is about grand narratives and tech stocks; S is about chasing data and consumer stocks.
T dares to buy on the left side but is prone to selling too early; F is hesitant to buy on the left side but can hold through the final rise.
J diversifies positions, while P goes all in.
In the crypto world, there is something that surprises most people:
Whether it's the Chinese MBTI surveys or overseas surveys targeting crypto investors, they all point to the same conclusion—crypto is dominated by I types.
In cryptocurrency investment, the four dimensions of MBTI have different impacts on investment styles:
Extraversion/Introversion (E/I): Introverts (I) tend to conduct independent research, making investment decisions based on personal analysis; Extraverts (E) are greatly influenced by community trends and are active on social media.
Sensing/Intuition (S/N): Sensing types (S) prefer established cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum, focusing on current data and facts; Intuitive types (N) pay attention to innovative projects, pursuing long-term potential.
Thinking/Feeling (T/F): Thinking types (T) use logic and technical analysis, while Feeling types (F) are influenced by values and emotions, focusing on community impact and values.
Judging/Perceiving (J/P): Judging types (J) have structured investment plans and hold long-term; Perceiving types (P) are more flexible and may trade frequently.
Some popular MBTI personality investment styles in the crypto world are as follows:
INTJ (Introverted, Intuitive, Thinking, Judging) - "Architect"
Investment Style: Systematic, visionary.
Characteristics: INTJs construct complex investment strategies, possibly combining technical analysis, fundamental analysis, and market predictions. They prefer independent thinking and tend to invest in projects with disruptive potential (like Layer 1 blockchains or AI + crypto).
Strengths: Forward-thinking, able to identify long-term trends.
Weaknesses: May be overly confident, overlooking short-term risks.
INFJ (Introverted, Intuitive, Feeling, Judging) - "Advocate"
Investment Style: Idealistic, value-focused.
Characteristics: INFJs may choose to support projects that align with their vision, such as Ethereum or AI, even if they experience significant drops. They tend to hold long-term (HODL) and resonate strongly with the community and the mission of the projects.
Strengths: Patient, willing to wait for value realization.
Weaknesses: May overlook short-term market signals, leading to missed buying and selling opportunities.
INTP (Introverted, Intuitive, Thinking, Perceiving) - "Thinker"
Investment Style: Research-driven, innovation-oriented.
Characteristics: INTPs are very interested in the technical details and underlying logic of cryptocurrencies (like L1). They may spend a lot of time analyzing code, market structures, or novel DeFi projects. Investment decisions are based on rational deduction rather than emotions.
Strengths: Able to identify undervalued potential projects.
Weaknesses: May become too engrossed in theory, lacking decisive execution.
ENTJ (Extraverted, Intuitive, Thinking, Judging) - "Commander"
Investment Style: Strategic, decisive, seeking dominance.
Characteristics: ENTJs enjoy making long-term plans and seizing market trends. They may invest in promising emerging projects and even try to lead or participate in crypto communities (like DAOs). They excel at analyzing macroeconomic trends and making quick decisions.
Strengths: Bold and visionary, able to seize big opportunities.
Weaknesses: May be overly confident, underestimating risks, leading to buying at high points.
ISTJ (Introverted, Sensing, Thinking, Judging) - "Responsible"
Investment Style: Cautious, detail-oriented, fact-based.
Characteristics: ISTJs delve into the fundamentals of cryptocurrencies, such as white papers, technical details, and team backgrounds. They tend to choose proven "blue-chip" projects (like Bitcoin or Ethereum) and avoid high-risk altcoins. Investment decisions are based on data and historical performance, less influenced by market sentiment.
Strengths: Steady, strong risk management skills.
Weaknesses: May miss out on rapidly rising emerging projects due to being overly conservative and slow to react.
ENFP (Extraverted, Intuitive, Feeling, Perceiving) - "Inspirer"
Investment Style: Passionate, exploratory.
Characteristics: ENFPs are curious about novelty and may try various niche tokens or NFT projects. They are easily swayed by storytelling and community enthusiasm, enjoying participation in "the next big thing."
Strengths: Open-minded, sometimes able to seize early opportunities.
Weaknesses: Easily distracted, lacking discipline.
ESTP (Extraverted, Sensing, Thinking, Perceiving) - "Doer"
Investment Style: Adventurous, short-term trading.
Characteristics: ESTPs enjoy fast-paced and high-stimulation environments; they may be day traders or those chasing "pump and dump" opportunities. They are skilled at capitalizing on market fluctuations for quick profits but may not delve deeply into project research.
Strengths: Flexible, able to quickly capture short-term profits.
Weaknesses: Lacks patience, may incur losses in volatile markets.
ESFP (Extraverted, Sensing, Feeling, Perceiving) - "Performer"
Investment Style: Impulsive, trend-chasing, emotional.
Characteristics: ESFPs are easily attracted by hype on social media (like the "Dogecoin craze") and enjoy participating in popular trends. Their investments are often based on intuition and current emotions, possibly driven by FOMO (fear of missing out).
Strengths: Quick to react, able to profit during short-term trends.
Weaknesses: Lacks long-term planning, may panic sell during market corrections.
Be Your True Self, Earn the Money That Belongs to Your Personality
As I continuously witness the cycles and narrative hotspots in the crypto world, I gradually understand that whether it's DeFi, NFT, Layer 2, or AI, MEME… ultimately, it all comes down to "investing within your own personality."
Personality is the true "destiny code" that determines your investment trajectory.
No matter how much technical analysis you learn or how many tokens you research, and regardless of how many KOL analyses you listen to, the strategies you can execute will still be within the range allowed by your personality.
Watching others become overnight millionaires through a particular token, I realize that I can never replicate that kind of "risky" investment.
In this tempting world of crypto, the most important thing is not to chase others' success but to find your own "investment code" within your personality's "comfort zone." When you accept the limitations of your personality, you can instead leverage those constraints to your greatest advantage.
Perhaps the risk in the crypto world is not missing opportunities but investing against your own personality. Being honest with yourself and accepting your investment personality is the key to surviving long-term in this market and earning wealth that truly belongs to you and aligns with your personality's destiny.
In the sands of time in the crypto market, what ultimately remains are not those who chase every trend but those investors who stay true to themselves.
