A step-by-step guide on how to participate in the popular Bitcoin project Fractal mining
Author: Solo Fractal
Fractal Bitcoin is stirring up a wave of FOMO, and the Unisat team has proposed the most native Layer 2 solution for the Bitcoin ecosystem after a year and a half of supporting the development of the inscription rune industry, gaining widespread consensus from the community: user interaction enthusiasm continues, with approximately 6 million interaction addresses; ecological projects are competing for First, working overnight to catch up; BTC miners are frantically switching hash power to mine FB, which resonates with the interests of multiple parties in the Bitcoin ecosystem since Ordinals.
Fractal Bitcoin has set up a unique mining mechanism, with one-third of the blocks supporting dual mining for joint mining pools, ensuring the security of the chain while allowing existing BTC hash power to mine both BTC and FB simultaneously.
@SoloFractal has utilized years of technical experience accumulated in the Web3 field to publicly conduct mining hash power tests on devices such as computers (I9 \4090), 0.3-4T small hash power miners, and S21 \ S19 large hash power miners since August 14, publishing daily progress updates. After three days of testing, we have completed tests on three types of mining equipment that everyone might use, and we summarize the test network results as follows:
1. Computer (I9 \4090)
When Fractal Bitcoin first started mining, it was generally believed that the early hash power would not be significant, so it should be possible to mine with a computer. We specifically conducted tests:
- Using CPU MINER to mobilize the CPU for testing, it showed unsuccessful results.
- Using CGMINER to mobilize the GPU for testing, it started successfully, but the hash power displayed was only 10Gh/s.
Summary: Although computers can mine, the presence of many S19 models on the market has led to excessively high hash power for early Fractal Bitcoin mining. Additionally, the comprehensive power consumption of computers is between 200-300W, which is relatively power-hungry. It is recommended not to use computers for mining, as even mining with the 4090 graphics card generates a lot of noise.
2. 0.3-4T Small Hash Power Miners
On July 24, a small hash power miner with 500G hash power mined a block alone on the Bitcoin mainnet abroad, claiming 3 BTC in rewards, instantly igniting a global SOLO mining craze. This time, as Fractal Bitcoin just started mining, small hash power miners should also have a certain chance to mine. We tested several brands of small hash power miners:
320G and 1T luckyminer, directly connected to the @SoloFractal mining pool, successfully mined 2 blocks in 24 hours, earning 50 FB rewards.
4T Avalon 3, directly connected to the @SoloFractal mining pool, successfully mined 4 blocks in 24 hours, earning 100 FB rewards.
Summary: Small hash power miners are more suitable for home mining, with prices ranging from $60 to $300. Due to their small size (about the size of a book or phone), low power consumption (ranging from 14-140W), and low noise (30-36 decibels), they can be plugged in and placed in well-ventilated areas like living rooms. Currently, they are one of the better choices for individual miners to participate in mining.
3. S21 \ S19 Large Hash Power Miners
Directly connected to the @SoloFractal mining pool, successfully mined 60% of the blocks and output in 24 hours, showing clear advantages.
Summary: Currently, mining is not supported domestically. Additionally, large hash power miners have a power consumption of 3000W, generate a lot of noise, and produce significant heat, making them unsuitable for home use. They can only be hosted in overseas mining farms. Currently, the test network is basically too late to participate; one can wait for the mainnet to go live before participating.
4. Connecting to Mining Pools
@Solo Fractal has set up SOLO mining for Fractal Bitcoin as a publicly available mining pool address on the Fractal Bitcoin ecosystem. Currently, the hash power of miners connected through @Solo Fractal accounts for 60-70% of the total hash power of Fractal Bitcoin.
