The election has produced another viral meme, is the bull market faith being recharged again?

As the U.S. election unfolds, "viral memes" continue to emerge.

In the early hours of today Beijing time, U.S. President Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race and will support Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic candidate for the 2024 election. Subsequently, meme coins related to $HERRIS, $KAMALA, and $KAMA surged in the community.

At the same time, Elon Musk, who is closely watched by the crypto community and supports Trump, also "stirred things up," leading to a meme coin concept related to the election, "DMAGA," surging over 50 times in a short period.

Changing Profile Picture at Midnight, Leading to a 50x Meme Surge

In recent days, Musk has frequently retweeted U.S. political content on his Twitter account, clearly supporting Trump, who is running for election. In the early hours of today, a user @Chriswinig commented on Musk's retweet about the 11% rise in New York's crime rate, saying, "It's time!" and attached an image of Musk's original profile picture with laser eyes and a "Dark mask."

This image was created by a website called DarkMagacoin, which was launched by the community based on Trump's famous fist-raising photo after the shooting incident. The site promotes itself with the slogan "Dark MAGA Patriots Control Everything," allowing community fans to generate similar dark laser-eyed images using tools provided on the official site.

Most importantly, the website launched the meme coin $DMAGA. However, before Musk changed to this profile picture, the trading volume of $DMAGA was less than $2 million a week after its launch.

In the early hours of today, Biden's announcement of his withdrawal from the presidential race reignited excitement among Trump's supporters. Musk changed his profile picture to this image, which was seen as a high-profile reaction celebrating Biden's withdrawal.

The community quickly noticed that a16z founder Marc Andreessen and Messari founder Ryan Selkis had also changed their profile pictures to the same laser-eyed image to show their support for Trump.

With Musk "leading the charge," DMAGA began to surge in the early hours, increasing over 50 times within hours, and by the time of writing, its market cap had surpassed $60 million.

Three Years Ago During the Bull Market, Musk Also Had Laser Eyes

In fact, "laser eyes" hold special significance in the crypto community, symbolizing the faith of crypto believers in Bitcoin.

In early 2021, during that bull market three years ago, Bitcoin surged from $29,000 at the beginning of the year to $56,000. Amid the excitement of the crypto community, crypto podcast host Greg Zaj initiated a "#LaserRayUntil100K" campaign on Twitter, believing that Bitcoin would soon break the $100,000 mark.

"Laser eyes" refer to a game mechanic where an enemy's eyes glow yellow when controlled by another entity, thus the crypto community uses laser-eyed avatars to express their faith in Bitcoin. At that time, MicroStrategy CEO Michael Saylor, CoinShares CEO Meltem Demirors, and even U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis participated in this campaign.

The most important participant was Musk. On February 20, 2021, Musk suddenly changed his profile picture to that of a girl with "laser eyes," set against a Bitcoin background. Under Musk's leadership, Twitter became a sea of laser eyes.

Interestingly, Bitcoin surged to $68,000 today, and the vision of "#LaserRayUntil100K" from three years ago feels just as relevant now.
