Nanyang Technological University recently announced on its official website that it will launch a Web3 open course "Ideating and Building in Web3" in collaboration with the Web3 developer education platform HackQuest. All courses are free and open to the public. This will be the first Web3 open course launched in collaboration between a Web3 education platform and a traditional higher education institution.

Some of the instructors for the open course include Dr. Edward W. Felten, co-founder of Arbitrum and former Chief Technology Officer of the White House, Yat Siu, co-founder and executive chairman of Animoca Brands, Austin Griffith from the Ethereum Foundation, Suji Yan, founder of Mask Network, Anna, head of stablecoins at Solana Foundation, Gloria, Global Director of Global Events at Morph, Dr. Micheal Yuen, advisor at GaiaNet, and Dr. Sergey Gorbunov, co-founder of Axelar.

The Solana Foundation, Morph, Mask Network, GaiaNet, Open Campus, and other ecosystems or projects have sponsored the open course as platinum sponsors of the course and the Port63 hackathon, and have joined the course preparation committee. OKX Wallet, Vara Network, Mantle Network, and others provide strategic support for the course.

The NTU I&E X HackQuest Web3 MOOC not only stays at the "Ideating" stage but also integrates the practical "building" aspect, offering hands-on courses including smart contract development, pricing and business model formulation, Go-To-Market strategies, fundraising, and economic system design. In addition, HackQuest will collaborate with Nanyang Technological University to launch an eight-month Web3 innovation challenge for all university students in Singapore in the fall semester of 2024, providing funding and entrepreneurial guidance to help turn more entrepreneurial ideas into reality.

Local university students in Singapore can continue to participate in the Port63 Innovation Challenge organized by Nanyang Technological University after completing the open course. The Port63 Innovation Challenge is divided into three tracks: Web 3.0 (hosted by HackQuest), sustainability, and national security. The challenge aims to cultivate entrepreneurial talent and encourage them to bring better solutions to real-world business problems. Winning teams will share prizes sponsored by companies such as Solana Foundation, Mask Network, Morph, GaiaNet, and Open Campus, and receive entrepreneurial support from HackQuest and the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Office at Nanyang Technological University. The inaugural Port63 Innovation Challenge in 2023 was a great success, with 43 teams and 140 participants, supported by over 10 corporate and community partners, and produced excellent teams such as GraphiNFT, Team Idea Alchemists, and Team Yield Farmers United.

This year's Port63 Innovation Challenge will open registration for all university students in Singapore starting August 1, 2024, and will hold a series of workshops during the Thinkathon in October. The challenge sprint phase in early next year will provide intensive mentoring to help participants prepare for the finals in March 2025, where all projects will pitch to judges and compete for prizes.
