The Solana Foundation launches the ninth "Renaissance" hackathon competition
The Solana Foundation today announced the launch of the "Renaissance" hackathon competition, with registration now open on the Colosseum platform. As the ninth hackathon hosted by the Solana Foundation, the "Renaissance" is an online competition aimed at providing a competitive platform for the next generation of developers on the Solana network. This hackathon will run from March 4, 2024, to April 8, 2024.
Participants in the "Renaissance" hackathon can use the Colosseum online platform to create developer profiles, find teammates, exchange new ideas, learn about the competition tracks, and register to compete for over $1 million in prizes and seed investments.
Over the past year, the Solana network has gained momentum due to the relentless innovation of developers within its ecosystem. These innovators have transformed the Solana network into the preferred platform for payments, consumer applications, gaming, social, and DePIN, among other fields. From solutions that enable merchants to accept USDC payments with near-instant settlement and low fees, to a range of new applications emerging outside the DeFi space, Solana's developers have made significant contributions to the diversification of network applications.
"Hackathons play a crucial role in the continued growth of the Solana network, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration," said Dan Albert, Executive Director of the Solana Foundation. "These events empower developers to create meaningful solutions that will disrupt various industries, solve real-world problems, and develop practical applications that can only be realized on Solana."
To further encourage the exploration of new application scenarios on the Solana network, the Renaissance online hackathon focuses on six key areas:
- DeFi and Payments hosted by Orca
- Consumer Applications hosted by Solana Mobile
- DePIN hosted by IO.NET
- Gaming hosted by Phantom
- DAO and Entrepreneurial Communities hosted by Squads
- Infrastructure hosted by Pyth
The best projects will receive the Grand Prize awarded by Symmetry, which includes $50,000 in USDC and tickets to the 2024 Solana Foundation Annual Conference Breakpoint. Additionally, three special awards will be given for Best Public Benefit Project, Best Climate-Related Project, and Best Project Founded by University Students. Hackathon winners will also have the opportunity to be selected for the Colosseum Accelerator Program and receive $250,000 in seed investment.
"We are very excited to host the next Solana Foundation hackathon on Colosseum," said Matty Taylor, co-founder of Colosseum. "Following the success of Hyperdrive, the Solana developer community is vibrant. We are honored to support them at this critical step in their journey. We look forward to collaborating with the Solana Foundation and many other partners in the Solana ecosystem to continue encouraging experimentation, entrepreneurial innovation, and solving real-world problems."
The previous Solana Foundation hackathon—Hyperdrive—was held at the end of 2023, attracting over 7,000 participants and resulting in more than 900 project submissions.
