Shanghai police: A network of drug-related industries using virtual currency for payment is forming
ChainCatcher news, on the eve of "June 26 International Day Against Drug Abuse," the Shanghai police disclosed a case this year involving a gang engaged in the trafficking of new types of drugs and the cultivation, processing, and sale of marijuana. Drug users and traffickers contacted each other through overseas social media, with traffickers preemptively "burying packages" to hide the goods. Drug users then retrieved the items by following the provided instructions and paid using virtual currency.
Li, the head of the Narcotics Control Division of the Shanghai Public Security Bureau, stated that the police are relying on increasingly advanced online investigation technologies and innovating a multi-agency collaboration model. Some drug traffickers set up multiple intermediary links to both conceal the truth of the transactions and increase the difficulty for the police in tracing the drug funds. The method used in this case, where drug payments are made using virtual currency, has also become a new trend in the circulation of drug funds. (source link)
