It is reported that CGV FoF recently sponsored one of Japan's most influential Web3 offline summits, the "TEAMZ Web3 Summit 2023", and will organize the Tokyo Web3 Spring Hackathon (TWSH) Demo Day offline event on the afternoon of the first day of the summit (May 17) at Toranomon Hills.

At that time, dozens of guests will attend the event and speak on-site, including former Japanese Cabinet Office State Minister and head of the web3PT Digital Society Promotion Headquarters, Hirai Masaki, Draper Associates founder Tim Draper, Astar Network founder Watanabe Sota, BitFlyer CEO Yuzo Kano, NTT DOCOMO web3 special expert and ETH Global reviewer Jason Sai, Coincheck Executive Officer Amo Kensuke, OP Crypto Founder David Gan, Infinity Ventures Crypto founding partner Akio Tanaka, STEPN Chief Profit Officer Mable Jiang, NGC Ventures fund partner Tony Gu, SevenX Venture co-founder Qi Liu, and others.

The choice of Japan as the origin of TWSH aligns well with the Japanese government's efforts to vigorously develop Web3. Recently, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida stated that the arrival of the Web3 era could lead to economic growth in Japan. In the future, the Japanese government will carry out institutional reforms to create an environment that promotes the creation of new services, including Web3-related infrastructure. Japan has significant development potential in the crypto and Web3 fields and may occupy an important position in the global Web3 market.

The organizer CGV stated that this hackathon is different from previous industry hackathons. In addition to focusing on development capabilities, it emphasizes the sustainability and growth potential of projects, with the competition expected to last for six months. The construction and development of the Web3 ecosystem cannot be achieved overnight. The aim is to responsibly examine and patiently support the discovery and assistance of outstanding talents and teams in the Web3 field globally, exploring the vast development space of Web3 together.

It is understood that the first Japan Web3 Hackathon organized by CGV was held from July to October 2022, jointly initiated by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Keio University, SONY, SoftBank, Cointelegraph Japan (CTJ), and supported by dozens of well-known institutions in the global blockchain industry, including Metis, MetaEstate, Atom Capital, Binance, BAI Capital, Consensus Lab, Gate.io, IOSG Ventures, IPFS infinite Japan, NGC Ventures, OKX, Tokyo Tower, and Tokyo Esports Gate. More than a hundred excellent projects from Japan, the United States, Singapore, Dubai, Hong Kong, and other regions participated, and ultimately, nine projects from different tracks stood out through selection, sharing a prize pool of $150,000, with some favored projects also receiving investment from institutions and support from local resources in Japan.

Regarding the focus areas of the second Japan Web3 Hackathon, CGV founder Steve Chiu stated that this event will not only cover popular Web3 tracks such as blockchain infrastructure, DeFi, GameFi, metaverse, NFT, and SocialFi but will also pay special attention to innovative trends like zero-knowledge proofs (ZK), crypto AI integration, innovative stablecoins, DePIN (Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network), soulbound tokens (SBT), fully on-chain games, and new social applications.

Participating institutions will have the opportunity to engage early with leading projects and share insights with global Web3 industry institutions and practitioners. Participating projects will have the chance to receive investments and entrepreneurial guidance from top global VC institutions, compete for a total prize pool of hundreds of thousands of dollars, and gain support from a $10 million incubation fund.

According to the competition schedule, from April to June, there will be project registration, selection and review, Demo Day offline presentations (Toranomon, Tokyo), online preliminaries, and excellent project roadshows; in September, an award ceremony will be held in Japan.

As of now, more than 30 VC institutions from around the world have registered to participate in the project selection review, and more institutional collaborations are being confirmed.
