EtherPOAP: How to fully and multidimensionally engage with the Ethereum merge?
Author: EtherPOAP
In major cities across China, when it comes to the connection with Ethereum, Shanghai is undoubtedly the first. Not to mention that Shanghai hosted the second Ethereum Developer Conference (DEVCON 2) in 2016 and this year held the "Ethereum Shanghai Web 3.0 Developer Summit" and other large-scale events, the upcoming Ethereum Merge (The Merge) is also named after "Shanghai." This is the first Ethereum upgrade named after a Chinese city following the upgrades in Istanbul, Berlin, and London.
Previously, Ethereum network upgrades were named after the cities that hosted DevCon (Ethereum Developer Conference), so naming this upgrade "Shanghai" follows the tradition. However, insiders reveal that the location for each DevCon event is carefully considered by the Ethereum Foundation, prioritizing cities that have previously supported the Ethereum team, and Shanghai is one of them.
In 2016, with a harsh external environment squeezing survival space and internal resource competition brought about by rapid industry expansion, Ethereum found itself in a dilemma of internal and external troubles. The Ethereum Foundation, feeling unfulfilled and unwilling to give up, came to Shanghai seeking a breakthrough and assistance.
Now, as the highly anticipated Ethereum Merge (The Merge) enters its final countdown, numerous events centered around the theme of "Ethereum Merge" are emerging, with countless people eagerly awaiting to witness how the king of public chains, Ethereum, transitions from PoW to PoS, completing this unprecedented consensus switch and power transfer.
In the midst of hope and chaos, how can we comprehensively and multidimensionally engage with the Ethereum Merge?
How to Participate in the Ethereum Merge Correctly and Efficiently
The main change in this Ethereum Merge (The Merge) is the consensus mechanism: for users, Ethereum Gas fees will not decrease; for developers, there are very few updates needed, making the upgrade almost imperceptible. However, the impact brought by the Ethereum Merge will undoubtedly be profound, and we still need to keep learning, identifying quality opportunities, and participating in a timely manner.
In terms of information acquisition, media, institutions, KOLs, and YouTubers will not miss this hot event. Reading a few articles and watching videos can help establish a basic understanding of the Ethereum Merge (The Merge). Additionally, based on the quality of guests and organizers, one can selectively participate in a few high-quality Space events to listen to multidimensional insights from community opinion leaders.
Regarding event participation, the community is not short of innovative activities that revolve around the theme of the Ethereum Merge while integrating community hotspots. These activities can also be participated in at one's discretion, as they may bring unexpected surprises in the future.
For example, the combination of Vitalik's anthology "Proof of Stake" and SBT (Soulbound Tokens) allows readers to donate on Gitcoin and receive a digital copy and commemorative NFT, with all proceeds going to charity. Participating in the event not only helps understand and promote Vitalik's thoughts on Ethereum's transition to PoS but also advances the practical application of SBT in specific scenarios.
Another example is the EtherPOAP project supported by HashKey Group and IPrinter, which combines the Ethereum Merge event with POAP (Proof of Attendance Protocol), commemorating this milestone event while deeply exploring the development of POAP in scenarios such as NFT value, DAO governance, and digital identity.
Vitalik shared the future possibilities of POAP at the 2022 Ethereum Community Conference, stating that "POAP will become a way to distinguish real users from bots in Web3."
However, in the rapidly changing Web3 world, POAP is not a very new concept; it can even be said to be somewhat oversaturated. Currently, many addresses hold POAP, and many large events introduce the Participate to Mint concept to increase marketing hype, but these attempts often remain superficial. Besides badges, participation proofs, and lotteries, what else can POAP do? The contemplation on this question continues.
As the Ethereum Merge (The Merge) approaches, EtherPOAP launches a series of activities, offering new ideas for the innovative application of POAP.
EtherPOAP: More Than Just Proof of Attendance, Upgrading POAP Gameplay
As an event commemorating the Ethereum Merge milestone, EtherPOAP unites core builders from the blockchain world, aiming to issue The Merge upgrade commemorative medal NFTs on Ethereum and airdrop them to all 8,893 addresses that participated in the Ethereum genesis crowdfunding, honoring the contributions of the pioneers who made Ethereum's birth possible. Their heroic deeds will be eternally engraved on Ethereum in the form of NFTs. When the Merge upgrade is triggered, the commemorative medal NFTs will also be opened for Free Mint, witnessing history and creating the future together!
In addition to Free Mint, EtherPOAP has also incorporated a surprise "decentralized Giveaways" egg into this The Merge upgrade commemorative medal NFT event:
When the Merge event occurs (the first block whose Total Difficulty is greater than or equal to 58750000000000000000000), a snapshot of the state at that block height will be taken. The last three digits of the hash of that block will be converted from hexadecimal to decimal, and then the result will be taken modulo 100, yielding the final Magic Number. Lucky holders will receive hidden benefits provided by EtherPOAP sponsors.
For more details on the rules of the event and surprise benefits, interested users can follow EtherPOAP's official social media accounts for more information.
About EtherPOAP
EtherPOAP is a series of community events created by the most passionate supporters and community members of the Ethereum ecosystem, aimed at releasing a series of NFTs to commemorate the most historically significant Ethereum Merge. EtherPOAP is dedicated to commemorating the Web3 ecosystem built on Ethereum, organized by dozens of Web3 leaders, and produced, distributed, and incubated by IPrinter DAO.
