ChainCatcher news, according to Cointelegraph, Mt. Gox founder and Ripple co-founder Jed McCaleb recently disclosed the latest progress of his space station company Vast, aiming to push humanity to become a multi-planetary species. In an interview with Bloomberg, he stated that Vast plans to launch its still-under-construction commercial space station Haven-1 into orbit by May 2026 at the latest.

If Vast succeeds, it is expected to win a lucrative contract from NASA to replace the International Space Station, which is anticipated to be awarded in mid-2026; if it fails, McCaleb could lose $1 billion, and its business prospects would be impacted. He stated, "Few are willing to take on such high resource investment and risk as I am."

Vast is building spacecraft with the help of SpaceX technology, including docking adapters, a Starlink-based space WiFi system, and has booked SpaceX launch missions to transport equipment and astronauts (pending NASA approval). Currently, Vast is competing with companies such as Axiom Space, Voyager Space, Lockheed Martin, and Blue Origin, founded by Bezos, for NASA's next phase contract.
