ChainCatcher news, according to Decrypt, in 2024, the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI) has shut down 26 fraudulent cryptocurrency websites, with related consumer losses exceeding $4.6 million in 2024.

The DFPI has processed over 2,600 complaints through its "Crypto Scam Tracker," revealing seven new types of scams, including fake Bitcoin mining, cryptocurrency job scams, and crypto gaming fraud, as well as misleading artificial intelligence investment schemes.

Meanwhile, the California Department of Justice (DOJ) has reported shutting down 42 websites operated by international scammers, discovering losses of $6.5 million due to promises of high returns.
