Trump will strengthen control over independent federal agencies, including the regulatory functions of the SEC and the Federal Reserve
ChainCatcher news, according to the Financial Times, U.S. President Trump will strengthen control over independent federal agencies, marking the latest move by Trump to assert control over government institutions.
The White House stated in a release that later on Tuesday, President Trump signed an executive order to "constrain independent agencies," directing them to submit regulatory proposals for review. Trump will also establish "performance standards" for these agencies, which must "consult" with the White House on "priorities and strategic plans."
The executive order targets agencies including the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The White House noted that the Federal Reserve's monetary policy functions are not restricted by this executive order, but its regulatory functions are limited.
