ChainCatcher news, according to Decrypt, an explosion occurred in Bandar Puncak Alam, Malaysia, where an illegal Bitcoin mining operation was discovered, marking another case of electricity theft related to cryptocurrency in the country.

At 11:41 AM on Tuesday, thick smoke and flames were seen coming from the house, prompting local residents to call for help. After the fire was extinguished at 4:45 PM, investigators found a complex illegal setup: nine Bitcoin mining machines, a blower, and a D-link router, all connected to an unauthorized power source.

In Malaysia, while Bitcoin mining itself is not illegal, tampering with power supply lines is a criminal offense under Section 37 of the Electricity Supply Act, punishable by a fine of up to 100,000 Malaysian Ringgit (23,700 USD) and a maximum of five years in prison.
