Founder of Sonic Labs: L2 is the reason for Ethereum's inflation again
ChainCatcher news, Sonic Labs founder Andre Cronje recently posted on X criticizing the handling of profits by Ethereum L2 solutions and the potential inconsistency with Ethereum's decentralization principles, "I don't understand how Ethereum users convince themselves. L2 is the reason for Ethereum's inflation again."
The focus of this debate is on two competing visions for Ethereum's scalability. Critics argue that L2 generates substantial revenue but only returns a small portion of data availability and security to Ethereum.
Supporters of decentralized scaling, including Cronje, advocate for directly using solutions like Sonic to enhance Ethereum's base layer, reducing reliance on external L2 providers.
CryptoQuant's research director Julio Moreno pointed out that Ethereum's supply has now exceeded pre-merge levels (September 2022), confirming that the network has returned to inflation. To address the inefficiencies of Ethereum L2 solutions, Cronje proposed leveraging Sonic's technology to bypass the limitations of centralized models.
Previously, members of the Sonic Labs team publicly questioned the revenue flow of the Base sequencer, implying that the Base team was dumping ETH, to which members of the Base team responded with rebuttals.
