ChainCatcher news, Ripple Labs' Chief Legal Officer Stuart Alderoty stated that the potential next chairman of the U.S. SEC, once confirmed by the Senate, may directly withdraw civil lawsuits against cryptocurrency companies.

Alderoty expressed his hope that under the potential leadership of Paul Atkins, the SEC would abandon cryptocurrency enforcement cases that do not involve fraud, as these lawsuits are primarily based on registration issues. Ripple is still embroiled in the SEC lawsuit, with both parties appealing after the judge issues a liability ruling in 2024.

Alderoty added, "It will take some time to resolve this— the SEC is still a bureaucratic agency. Litigation and regulatory oversight through enforcement is not the path this country should take. I believe the new SEC understands this, and I remain cautiously optimistic that at some point in 2025, this case will be voluntarily withdrawn."
