Arizona approves strategic Bitcoin reserve bill
According to ChainCatcher, as reported by Crypto Briefing, Arizona lawmakers have introduced a bill that allows public funds to be invested in Bitcoin and other digital assets. The state's Senate Finance Committee approved the bill on January 27 with a vote of 5 to 2.
The proposed legislation, co-sponsored by Wendy Rogers and Jeff Weninger, is known as SB1025, or the "Arizona Strategic Bitcoin Reserve Act," which allows the state to invest up to 10% of public funds (including funds held by the state treasurer and retirement systems) in cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. The bill also includes provisions for securely storing digital assets in potentially federal strategic Bitcoin reserves if the U.S. Treasury Secretary establishes a strategic Bitcoin reserve for government assets.
