Following the successful airdrop of the PudgyPenguins token, the anime project Animecoin under the NFT blue-chip project Azuki is set to launch the ANIME token this January. However, the upcoming launch of the ANIME token has not significantly boosted the prices of the Azuki NFT series, and the market seems to be hesitant, with controversy arising.

As a result, the Azuki series NFTs have seen a slight overall increase, but they are still far from recovering to historical highs. According to NFT Price Floor data, in the past 24 hours, Azuki has risen by 13%, with a floor price currently at 14.08 ETH, down nearly 43.7% from its historical peak; Azuki Elementals has risen by 17%, with a floor price reaching 1.9 ETH, setting a new historical high; Beanz has increased by about 20.1%, with a floor price of 0.95 ETH, still down 81% from its historical high.

In contrast, the Pudgy Penguins series NFTs experienced a massive buying spree after announcing their token issuance plan. From the token release to the launch period, both Pudgy Penguins and Lil Pudgys saw their floor prices increase by three digits, reaching new highs, demonstrating a stronger and more positive market demand compared to Azuki.

On the occasion of Azuki's third anniversary, ANIME announced on January 13 that the ANIME token will be launched this month on Ethereum and Arbitrum. In fact, as early as the end of last year, Azuki founder Zagabond had already warmed up for this token generation event (TGE), claiming that Animecoin would launch before Anime Chain.

The tokenomics of ANIME shows that the total supply of ANIME tokens is 10 billion, with an initial circulation of 7.69 billion, meaning the initial circulation ratio is 76.9%. In terms of specific allocation, 37.5% will be allocated to the Azuki community, 13% will be used for AnimeDAO, 24.44% will be allocated to the Animecoin Foundation, 2% will be allocated to partner communities, 15.62% will be allocated to the team and advisors (33.33% will be unlocked after a 1-year lock-up period, with the remaining portion unlocked linearly), and 7.44% will be used for Azuki company (33.33% will be unlocked after a 1-year lock-up period, with the remaining unlocked linearly). As part of the TGE, the Hyperliquid community (HYPE stakers), Kaito yappers, Arbitrum community, and others will be airdropped ANIME tokens as partner communities.

At the same time, Azuki officially announced a collaboration with the Animecoin Foundation to jointly promote the construction of an open anime universe, stating, "Azuki has demonstrated the unique value of Web3 for IP incubation through a decentralized brand-building model, creating over 100 sub-communities, global community events, and rich fan creations. This collaboration includes the upcoming Anime.com and the ANIME token, aiming to transform anime fans from passive consumers into true cultural owners."

It is worth mentioning that an image of the highly popular Japanese anime "Jujutsu Kaisen" appeared on the ANIME tokenomics page, leading the community to speculate that it may imply some significant collaboration.

According to crypto KOL @aravingape's analysis based on the ANIME tokenomics, considering project badges, points, and other factors, under a neutral expectation (with ANIME FDV maintained at $2.5 billion), a single Azuki NFT could receive an airdrop valued at $40,700, while a single Azuki Elementals NFT could receive an airdrop valued at $4,000.

However, while the ANIME TGE event has garnered significant attention, it has also sparked some controversy and negative comments. Compared to Pudgy Penguins' generous distribution of 24.12% of tokens to other communities, ANIME's airdrop scale to other communities is considered relatively small. It is also noteworthy that although Pudgy Penguins previously airdropped tokens to Azuki holders, Azuki did not reciprocate with a similar airdrop this time.

On the other hand, Azuki and Animecoin officials have been criticized for holding a high proportion of tokens, with many community members viewing this as a "classic VC sell-off party." From the token distribution perspective, about 60.5% of ANIME tokens will be allocated to the Animecoin Foundation, AnimeDAO, team and advisors, and Azuki company. For example, AI agent AIXBT analyzed, "To be honest, this means those venture capital firms are ready to sell. If holders want to achieve real balance, then the circulation at TGE should be 90%, not 76%."
