BIO launches on Binance Launchpool, a comprehensive overview of ecological potential targets
Author: 0xFacai, BlockBeats
On December 23, Binance announced that Binance Launchpool will launch its 63rd project, BIO Protocol (BIO), and trading pairs such as BIO/USDT and BIO/BNB will be available from January 3, 2025. According to Binance's announcement, the total supply of the genesis token for BIO Protocol is 3,320,000,000 tokens, with an initial circulating supply of 1,296,529,168 tokens at the time of listing on Binance, accounting for approximately 39.05% of the total genesis token supply. Among these, 56% of BIO tokens will be allocated to the ecosystem and community, 25.4% to early contributors, and 18.6% to early supporters.
Since Binance Labs announced its investment in BIO Protocol, the DeSci market has reignited, with related concept tokens such as VITA, GROW, and RSC experiencing significant increases. Following the news of Binance Launchpool, recently popular ecological meme coins have also surged rapidly, with RIF briefly rising over 40%, URO over 35%, and DRUGS over 150%. In addition, "established" DeSci projects like VITA and RSC have started to see market reactions.
In this article, BlockBeats comprehensively reviews the current BIO ecosystem and potential targets related to DeSci concepts, covering everything from DAOs to NFTs to meme coins, indicating that there are indeed speculative opportunities in the DeSci field.
BIO Ecosystem DeSci DAO
BIO is a biological DAO network, with each biological DAO focusing on developing research and products in specific scientific fields. Currently, the BIO network consists of eight different scientific communities focusing on areas such as longevity, women's health, neurodegenerative diseases, and synthetic biology. This article will not elaborate further on the background and mechanisms of BIO Protocol.
Initial DeSci DAOs
The initial DeSci DAOs were established before BIO Protocol separated from Molecule, and there are currently 7 of them. After the establishment of BIO Protocol, these DAO organizations were first incorporated into the BIO network. During the previous BIO Genesis Event, users had to exchange tokens from these DAO organizations for BIO tokens, making these DAO tokens a component of BIO network assets.
VitaDAO: Raised over $5 million in the field of longevity science, supported by Pfizer's venture capital arm and Balaji Srinivasan, and collaborates with Newcastle University. Notably, VitaDAO is the "oldest of the old," being the first DeSci DAO of Molecule, the ancestor of DeSci and the mother of the BIO protocol, focusing on research in the longevity field. The current BIO Protocol association is also a Swiss nonprofit organization founded by key members of VitaDAO.
HairDAO: Focused on hair loss; the DAO owns patents and consumer products Follicool.
CerebrumDAO: Promotes brain health, raised over $1.5 million, and has an agreement with Fission Pharma to address mitochondrial dysfunction in neurodegenerative diseases.
ValleyDAO: Focused on synthetic biology, raised over $2 million, and collaborates with Imperial College London.
AthenaDAO: Promotes women's health research and development, providing $500,000 in funding for translational research, with 14 intellectual property transactions pending.
CryoDAO: Promotes the development of cryobiology, raised over $3 million in the field, and established projects with Oxford Cryo Technology and Advanced Neurobiology.
PsyDAO: Focused on psychedelic drugs, launched a new platform OPSY utilizing psychedelic drug trials and data.
First Batch of Launchpad DAOs
BIO Protocol recently announced the first batch of Launchpad DAOs after its launch, which were initiated through the bidding mechanism of the BIO platform's Launchpad. The first DAO to conduct a token auction was Quantum Biology DAO, with the auction concluding on December 17, during which bidding was very competitive, with starting prices exceeding the original price by more than ten times at one point.
Long COVID Labs: Accelerates the cure for over 100 million Long COVID patients. Founded by Rohan Dixit, a former Stanford neuroscientist, healthcare entrepreneur, and Long COVID survivor.
Quantum Biology DAO: Manufactures quantum microscopes to advance biological research. Founded by Clarice D. Aiello (PhD from MIT, a world-leading quantum biology scientist) and Geoff Anders (Executive Director of Leverage Research).
Curetopia (Rare Diseases): Addresses the rare disease sector valued at over $10,000 by uniting families and patient communities. Founded by Ethan Perlstein, a Harvard PhD, entrepreneur, and Y-Combinator alumnus.
BIO Ecosystem Meme & AI DAO
In addition to serious research DAO organizations, the BIO team and community have also conducted interesting DeSci experiments outside of DeSci DAOs, successfully bringing significant attention to the DeSci field.
RIF/URO
Pump.Science is a meme token platform launched by BIO Protocol at this year's Token 2049 Solana Breakpoint conference, where players can purchase meme tokens representing drugs and participate in predicting drug effects and trading experimental data. The recent surge of RIF/URO after DEVCON Bangkok has also been a direct catalyst for igniting the DeSci field, which has been viewed by the market as a speculative leader in the DeSci sector for a considerable time.
DRUGS
DRUGS (Big Pharmai), also known as "Little BIO," is the "favorite child" of the BIO Protocol ecosystem. DRUGS aims to disrupt the monopolistic business model of traditional large pharmaceutical companies, and the project has received widespread support from the BIO ecosystem since its inception, including Pump Science, other BIO-related DeSci DAOs, and BIO co-founder Paul himself.
GIRLE/BABY
GIRLE and BABY are AI DAO and meme tokens issued by AthenaDAO on the Solana DAOs.fun platform and Base chain, respectively, both supporting scientific research in the field of women's fertility.
GIRLE aims to empower the future of fertility through AI and Web3, and the team is currently conducting related experiments on peptide cell repair, testing the effects of peptides on cells, and will soon launch related experimental tokens. Their official website also showcases other token holdings in the DAO treasury.
BIO Ecosystem IPT
IPT is an intellectual property token pioneered by the Molecule Catalyst platform, representing partial governance rights over generated research IP. These tokens allow holders to directly participate in the development, decision-making, and future direction of research. Each BioDAO typically holds a portfolio of IP tokens representing intellectual property related to specific scientific research fields. Currently, the most recognized IPTs are VitaDAO's developed and owned IPTs VitaRNA and VITA-FAST.
IPT VitaRNA & VITA-FAST
VitaRNA is the IPT of Artan Bio, a gene therapy project that has raised over $300,000. Artan Bio is exploring promising gene therapies that address genetic factors associated with aging. The company's approach aims to develop therapeutic candidates that may suppress mutations leading to aging. Artan Bio is led by two entrepreneurs who previously advanced a drug development platform to human clinical trials.
VITA-FAST is the IPT of Viktor Korolchuk's laboratory, which has also successfully raised over $300,000. VITA-FAST focuses on researching drugs that enhance autophagy, a natural "garbage disposal" built into our body cells that can eliminate unnecessary protein accumulation.
OVARIA
OVARIA is the IPT launched in collaboration between AthenaDAO and Gero. Gero is a biotechnology company that uses artificial intelligence for target and drug discovery. AthenaDAO collaborates with Gero to revolutionize the treatment landscape of ovarian aging, providing therapeutic potential in currently limited areas. AthenaDAO will use their platform to identify up to 10 new targets for ovarian aging, with trial results expected to delay menopause and reduce its health-related consequences.
Competitors & Related Memes
In addition to BIO-related targets, the ecological heat has also extended to other areas of DeSci.
RSC
Research Hub is a DeSci project founded by Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, with the mission of accelerating the pace of scientific research. By creating modern mobile and web applications, it allows people to conduct scientific research more effectively.
Within the ResearchHub platform, research papers are stored and grouped by research field in "centers." Personal centers essentially act as live journals within key areas, with highly voted posts (i.e., papers and their related abstracts and discussions) moving to the top of each center.
Scihub
Scihub is inspired by the world's largest free paper download center, Sci-hub, which faces legal issues due to its open-source nature and relies solely on donations for maintenance. 0xAA (@0xAA_Science) is the top holder of this token, currently holding 22% of the total tokens, and has stated that he will donate 20% of the tokens to the operators of SciHub to support their cause and platform development.
Currently, BIO Protocol has announced its roadmap for 2025, which includes:
- The BIO token will undergo TGE on the Ethereum mainnet on January 3;
- The BIO token will be launched on Solana and Base networks;
- New BioDAOs will be launched;
- BIO/BioDAO liquidity pools;
- A new BIO Launchpad will officially go live.
With the launch of the BIO token on Binance, the DeSci field may usher in a new wave of excitement.
