Information of participants in the encrypted conference was stolen and traded on the market, raising security concerns
ChainCatcher news, according to Cointelegraph, a batch of data containing sensitive information about cryptocurrency conference attendees is circulating in the market. These lists may include full names, phone numbers, nationalities, job roles, and companies, as well as personal and corporate social media links. Some lists even include attendees' ticket purchase dates, ticket types, operating systems used for purchasing, number of social media followers, cryptocurrency wallet addresses, and information entered in text fields sent to event organizers.
Cointelegraph obtained "samples" of such lists from sellers via Telegram, which include four lists of approximately 60 to 100 participants each, seemingly from multiple events, with each list containing different data points about attendees. One seller has access to lists from multiple countries, indicating that the international trade of blockchain event attendee data is not isolated but organized.
Notably, investigations suggest that data resellers are suspected to be from Russia. Sellers claim that this data will be used for "marketing promotion and finding customers," and even attempt to justify the sale of "non-leaked" data, asserting that this data "is not sensitive information" and that "most people are open to such marketing."
