Canadian police confirm the death of 25-year-old cryptocurrency industry professional Kevin Mirshahi, who went missing after being kidnapped
ChainCatcher news, according to local media reports, Canadian law enforcement has confirmed that a body found in a Montreal park belongs to 25-year-old cryptocurrency industry professional Kevin Mirshahi. Mirshahi had been suspected dead since at least August of this year, and it was only recently that the police found and confirmed his body.
Mirshahi was kidnapped at the end of June along with three others in an apartment building in Old Montreal. The others returned unharmed the next day, while Mirshahi remained missing. Until October 30, when a passerby discovered his body in Île-de-la-Visitation Park in Montreal.
Mirshahi owned and operated an investment firm called Crypto Paradise Island. The Quebec investment regulatory authority, Autorité des marchés financiers, launched an investigation into the company in 2021. On July 4, 2024, the regulator prohibited Mirshahi, his company, and two related individuals from engaging in brokerage or investment advisory activities and securities trading, and ordered them to delete social media posts.
In August, police arrested a 32-year-old woman suspected of involvement in the kidnapping and causing Mirshahi's death, who now faces charges including first-degree murder. (The Block)
