The Washington Post will not endorse a presidential candidate for the first time since the 1980s
ChainCatcher news, according to foreign media reports, although the presidential race between Trump and Harris remains tight, the editorial page editor of The Washington Post told colleagues in a tense meeting on Friday morning that for the first time in 36 years, they decided not to endorse a presidential candidate.
Editorial editor David Shipley informed colleagues that The Washington Post's publisher Will Lewis would release a statement to readers online earlier on Friday afternoon. Shipley told colleagues that the editorial board was informed by management yesterday that there would be no endorsement. He added that he "takes responsibility" for this decision.
The reason he mentioned was to create an "independent space," allowing the newspaper not to tell people who they should vote for. Colleagues reportedly felt "shocked" and generally held a negative attitude.
