ChainCatcher news, according to a report by Checkpoint Research, a fake wallet application that was available on the Google Play Store for four months stole over $70,000 worth of cryptocurrency in a phishing attack, and was later reported and taken down. The malware impersonated WalletConnect, directing unsuspecting users from the official store to other websites, tricking them into authorizing transactions to gain access to their funds. The counterfeit app was downloaded a total of 10,000 times, with 150 people falling victim.
