Mawari completes $10.8 million financing to expand spatial computing scale

Summary:

  • Mawari is a decentralized content delivery network that enables creators to build immersive experiences that engage audiences.

  • Mawari is a pioneer in the field of 3D streaming, having secured 3 patents with an additional 11 patents pending, and boasts 40 partners including KDDI, Netflix, and BMW.

Mawari Network is a DePIN (Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network) project aimed at pioneering the next generation of spatial computing, having completed a strategic financing round of $10.8 million led by Anfield LTD, Borderless Capital, and 1kx, with other investors including Accord Ventures, Animoca Brands Japan, Blockchange Ventures, Draper Dragon, iAngels, Mulana Ventures, Parami Investors, Samsung Next, and Waldo Holdings, along with notable angel investors Ivan Brightly, Joshua Frank, Pete Townsend, and Sean Carey.

With support from investors and operators in both the web2 and web3 industries, combined with Mawari's seven years of technological development in streaming immersive experiences, Mawari is positioned to realize its bold vision of rapidly and economically delivering 3D content to devices around the world using DePIN.

Mawari streams real-time 3D content to spatial computing devices such as Apple Vision Pro, Meta Quest 3, and Meta Orion AR glasses through a global GPU network, leveraging Web3 elements like DePIN to overcome the limitations of traditional centralized networks. Mawari has an advantage in addressing the core challenges of the spatial computing industry (formerly known as XR (Extended Reality)), focusing on providing scalable infrastructure for real-time 3D applications. Founded in 2017, Mawari launched the Mawari Network (a DePIN network) and is the only full-stack spatial computing platform that offers decentralized computing and storage resources optimized for AR/VR experiences.

"Every time I see what Mawari is building, I imagine how crazy the future of spatial computing will be," said Sean Carey, co-founder of Helium and partner at Borderless Capital. "Luis and his team have been quietly building real technology for the past seven years, and they have an impressive array of achievements."

"Mawari is not only an early pioneer in spatial computing but also one of the first successful Web2 companies to leverage blockchain and decentralization to drive innovation, improve efficiency, and enhance user experience," said Christopher Heymann, founding partner of 1kx. "They understand the enormous potential of decentralized computing to power the future of content delivery, and we are excited to support them on this journey."

Mawari will use the funds raised to explore new markets. The team will continue to enhance its Spatial Streaming SDK and invest in R&D to maintain technological leadership in providing decentralized spatial computing. Additionally, with the growth of spatial computing devices and related applications in Asia and the Americas, Mawari will intensify its business development efforts to reach more customers and markets.

"Our vision has always been to bring immersive experiences to everyone, and this funding will help us build a 3D internet platform with more communities," said Luis Oscar Ramirez, founder and CEO of Mawari.

Mawari is a pioneer in the field of 3D streaming, having secured 3 patents with an additional 11 pending. Currently, Mawari has 40 partners, including global brands such as T-Mobile, Sapporo, KDDI, Netflix, and BMW. The Mawari Network was initially operated primarily by the team, generating an average annual revenue of $1.5 million, but plans to conduct node sales in Q4 2024 to decentralize and expand its spatial computing network.

Mawari's solution consists of two key components: the Spatial Streaming SDK and the Mawari Network. The Spatial Streaming SDK is a powerful toolkit designed to seamlessly integrate with mainstream development environments like Unity and Unreal Engine. It allows creators to focus on producing engaging and innovative content without worrying about backend complexities.

Meanwhile, the Mawari Network is a decentralized, GPU-driven content delivery network designed specifically for spatial computing. It utilizes a globally distributed network of GPU nodes strategically placed near end users to ensure low latency and optimal performance. This architecture efficiently distributes and scales spatial content, providing seamless, high-quality experiences to users around the world.
