Vitalik urges to increase the number of blobs to further expand the Ethereum network
ChainCatcher news, according to Cointelegraph, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin urged for an increase in the "number of blobs" introduced during the Dencun upgrade to further expand the network and enable Layer 2 protocols to increase capacity.
In a discussion following the latest developer call, Vitalik revealed that the current usage rate of blob space is nearing 75%, and there is a need to increase the number of blobs through the EIP-7623 proposal. He stated, "I think the entire ecosystem is ignoring the fact that it is uncomfortably close to the limit."
It is reported that blob space is a dedicated data storage area introduced by EIP-4844 (also known as proto-danksharding) aimed at improving the scalability of the network. The number of blobs refers to the number of blobs that can be included in each Ethereum block. The current goal is to have 3 blobs per block, with a maximum of 6, but Vitalik is now advocating for an increase to 4 blobs per block, with a maximum of 8, so that each block can store more data.
