Binance: The claim that "12.8 million Binance users' personal data has been leaked" is false information
ChainCatcher news, according to Decrypt, a post on a dark web forum claims to have leaked personal data of 12.8 million Binance users, allegedly including sensitive information such as names, email addresses, phone numbers, birthdays, and actual addresses. However, Binance claims this is a scam.
A user named "FireBear" claimed on a leak-related forum on Monday that they obtained a database containing Binance users' personal information, which was allegedly leaked in August. The post claims that the leaked data includes Binance users' last names, first names, emails, phone numbers, birthdays, addresses, and postal codes, and the poster provided a blurred sample of the so-called data and offered to sell this information "partially or fully." The poster invited interested parties to contact them directly and warned that this sensitive data could be misused.
In response, a Binance spokesperson stated, "This is false. Our security team has investigated these claims, and we can confirm this is not a Binance data breach." Nevertheless, cybersecurity experts warn that such false information could trigger phishing attacks and account takeovers, advising users to enable two-factor authentication and remain vigilant against suspicious communications.
