FTX former executive Ryan Salame withdraws request to revoke prison sentence, his partner Bond faces investigation
ChainCatcher news, former FTX Digital Markets CEO Ryan Salame has withdrawn his previous request to overturn his 7.5-year sentence. This move stems from a disagreement triggered by the U.S. government's investigation into his partner Michelle Bond. Salame's lawyer previously claimed that prosecutors promised not to investigate Bond during negotiations, thus coercing Salame into pleading guilty.
However, Bond was subsequently charged in connection with a plan involving FTX founder SBF to influence the U.S. electoral system.
U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Damian Williams accused Bond of illegally accepting donations from FTX-related parties during the 2022 congressional campaign. Judge Lewis Kaplan described Salame's request as "ambiguous" and "inconsistent," and reserved the right to impose sanctions against him. U.S. prosecutors denied having reached an agreement with Salame to not investigate Bond.
