The 21st Century: A New Era of Technological Change

The 21st century marks the beginning of a technological revolution and a battleground for social restructuring. In this rapidly changing world, witnessing disruptive technological leaps, humanity seems to be trapped in a deepening dilemma, with a simultaneous desire to explore the unknown and hesitation towards new technologies.

Although history has repeatedly proven that technological advancements can bring unimaginable benefits to humanity, today, with frequent personal information leaks and the monopolistic realities of tech giants, human society inevitably faces a new round of trust crises. Meanwhile, the blockchain network, as the inheritor of the crypto-punk spirit, is also questioned due to its trend towards centralization. Are we moving in the right direction?

Building a resilient and robust network has always been the vision pursued by Ethereum as a "decentralized smart contract platform." Technology should not only be about creating wealth or improving efficiency; it should serve the common good of humanity and be concerned with building a more equitable, transparent, and secure society.

The Bethink Shanghai Web3 Hackathon will be held from October 13 to 15, 2024, during the Shanghai Blockchain International Week, at the 19th floor of Huahong International Building, 463 Tanggu Road, Hongkou District, Shanghai. The event is jointly initiated by communities including DappLearning, ECN, ETHPanda, ETHPlanet, Panta Rhei, Science BC, and WTF.Academy (listed in alphabetical order), with special support from Wanxiang Blockchain Lab and artistic support from an international art and science research institution. The competition, themed "Beyond Hacking - Technology for Good," has a total prize pool of approximately 100,000 RMB and invites top hackers and developers from around the world to think together about the trust crisis facing human society and the centralization crisis of blockchain systems. From this starting point, participants will design and develop solutions based on the Ethereum ecosystem that can rebuild trust, defend system security, and protect personal privacy, truly promoting the positive development of society.

(Specific competition topics will be announced on the day of the competition)

Rebuild Trust

Explore how to rebuild the social trust system through technological means in areas such as privacy protection (zero-knowledge proofs, AI, etc.), credit/reputation systems, and more.

Defend the System

Focus on defensive tools or applications, systems that promote the development of open-source and public goods, and fair distribution mechanisms (MEV mitigation, decentralized staking solutions).

Human Verification

How do we authenticate and define humans versus non-humans? Beyond technology, this seems to involve many considerations in society, ethics, and law. The human verification track will encourage participants to explore the new boundaries of future technology through the combination of art and technology.
