Tanzania bans access to X platform amid crackdown on opposition

Meanwhile, the police have issued a warning that the opposition plans to attack police stations. Politician Tundu Lissu and four other opposition officials from the Chadema party have been arrested in Tanzania. The Tanzanian police warned Chadema members organizing protests via Zoom that these meetings are being used to plan small-scale attacks. The Tanzanian public is using virtual private networks to access X and express their dissatisfaction. Last year, the government considered introducing a mandatory licensing system for the use of virtual private networks.
