French prosecutor: Telegram CEO may be released as early as this Wednesday
ChainCatcher news reports that the French prosecutor stated that Telegram founder and CEO Durov could be released as early as Wednesday local time. However, Polymarket is not confident that he will be released in August, with some users betting that he will be released by the end of September.
The prosecutor indicated that Durov has not been formally charged. Instead, his detention is part of an investigation stemming from alleged criminal activities planned or disseminated on Telegram, including money laundering, drug trafficking, child pornography, and non-compliance with law enforcement.
The press release noted that if investigators find sufficient evidence during the interrogation process, Durov's detention could be extended, or he could be formally charged and moved to pre-trial detention. This possibility may intensify market skepticism regarding whether he can be released before the initial deadline.
