ChainCatcher news, according to Decrypt, an Australian man has been sentenced to three years in prison after his partner accidentally received a multi-million dollar refund from Crypto.com.

39-year-old Jatinder Singh pleaded guilty to stealing 4.4 million dollars in the Victoria County Court and was sentenced. In May 2021, Singh attempted to deposit 65 dollars into a Crypto.com account using his partner's bank account but was rejected due to a name mismatch. Due to a significant accounting error by an employee, the account was refunded 10.47 million Australian dollars (approximately 6.8 million dollars).

Singh then transferred the funds into the couple's joint account and made large expenditures, including purchasing luxury items, real estate, and gifting 1 million Australian dollars to friends. It took seven months of internal auditing to discover the error. Singh's partner, Thevamanogari Manivel, was sentenced to 209 days in prison, after which she was released and placed under a community correction order.
