U.S. presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.: The U.S. BTC holdings should match the scale of gold reserves
ChainCatcher news, according to Decrypt, U.S. presidential independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. stated that if elected, he would push for the federal government to purchase $615 billion worth of Bitcoin until the amount of Bitcoin held by the U.S. matches the country's gold reserves. Kennedy said in an interview, "Bitcoin is honest money; it is a currency based on proof of work. Everything is on the ledger, it is decentralized, and that is what we need to do for democracy. I want the federal government to start buying Bitcoin and ultimately hold an amount of Bitcoin equivalent to gold during my term."
It is reported that the U.S. government is the largest holder of gold in the world, with 8,134 tons of gold. At current prices, the gold is valued at $615 billion, requiring 9.4 million BTC to match this value, which is nearly 45% of the total supply.
