ChainCatcher News, the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee has directed Defense Secretary and retired General Lloyd Austin to test the potential applications of blockchain technology in supply chain management and other national security applications within the U.S. Department of Defense. The U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee released the report on the Fiscal Year 2025 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) on July 9, which includes specific authorizations for the Army, Navy, Air Force, and overall defense programs.

The committee stated, "Blockchain technology has the potential to enhance the cryptographic integrity of the defense supply chain, improve data integrity, and reduce the risk of near-peer adversaries manipulating or compromising certain types of data."

The Senate committee also hopes the Department of Defense (DOD) will explore blockchain use cases to achieve national security objectives and create secure, transparent, accountable, and auditable data related to the supply chain.
