The latest ZKsync airdrop allocation is out! How is it distributed? Who is eligible to receive it?
Author: Karen, Foresight News
The highly anticipated ZKsync airdrop allocation plan has been finalized. The ZKsync Association will conduct a one-time airdrop of 3.6 billion ZK tokens to early users and adopters of ZKsync next week, with 695,232 eligible wallets. The snapshot date was March 24, and community members can check their airdrop eligibility on the Claim.zknation.io website, with claims starting next week until January 3, 2025.
This airdrop accounts for 17.5% of the total supply of ZK tokens. Users will be able to claim their tokens from next week until January 3, 2025. Contributors can start claiming from June 24.
Who is eligible for the ZKsync airdrop?
Two categories of ZKsync users are eligible for a total of 17.5% of the airdrop:
Users (89%): ZKsync users who have traded on ZKsync and met the activity threshold.
Contributors (11%): Individuals, developers, researchers, communities, and companies who have contributed to the ZKsync ecosystem and protocol through development, promotion, or education (unrelated to activity on ZKsync).
Airdrop eligibility and allocation are based on the snapshot taken at 00:00 UTC on March 24, 2024, commemorating the one-year anniversary of the ZKsync Era mainnet launch.
How is the ZKsync airdrop allocated?
Eligibility: ZKsync checked each address that has traded on ZKsync Era and ZKsync Lite against eligibility criteria to identify genuine users who have taken the time to explore ZKsync. Each address must have at least one point to qualify for the airdrop.
Allocation: After determining wallet eligibility, the airdrop allocation is calculated based on cross-chain crypto assets to ZKsync Era. The formula adjusts the allocation based on the assets held in the wallet (both in the wallet and in DeFi) and the duration of those assets' presence in the ZKsync Era. The more points earned, the larger the final allocation, with a cap of 100,000 ZK per individual address.
Multipliers: Each address can earn multipliers based on activities that indicate genuine human behavior or a high likelihood of contribution to ZKsync. These multipliers apply to the eligibility and allocation for both ZKsync Era and Lite.
- Holding ZKsync native NFTs;
- Supporting the ZKsync ecosystem by holding ZKsync native ERC20 tokens;
- Experimenting with native account abstraction of ZKsync Era using smart contract wallets;
- Receiving and holding previous airdrops from other ETH communities;
- Trading with mainstream ETH mainnet smart contracts and exploring new use cases and DApps.
Addresses that meet the above "Eligibility," "Allocation," and "Maturity" criteria are granted token allocations. A single address must meet a minimum requirement of 450 ZK, with a cap of 100,000 ZK for the airdrop. Tokens for addresses with less than 450 ZK will be reclaimed back into the pool.
Witch Detection: This airdrop aims to reward "real users." The vast majority of witch addresses have been eliminated through eligibility and allocation criteria. Each wallet has undergone additional witch detection steps. ZKsync states that there are over 6 million unique addresses on ZKsync Era, and the ZK airdrop focuses on using a human-centric approach to identify genuine users. The on-chain history of wallets reveals much about their owners' habits. Real people are often willing to take risks, especially those who feel part of the community. They spend time on-chain, ape in, trade, try new protocols, and hold speculative assets. The assets connected to real users ultimately flow into DApps and DeFi protocols, becoming the lifeblood of a high-liquidity ecosystem. Users should be rewarded in proportion to their impact on ZKsync's success.
In the contributor airdrop, over half (5.8%) of the allocation includes treasuries of ZKsync native projects based on ZKsync Era, including DeFi protocols, ZK chains, NFT collections, decentralized markets, infrastructure, games, etc. The remaining contributor airdrop is allocated to contributors, companies, and individuals who laid the groundwork for ZKsync:
Contributors from Ethereum development organizations, including execution clients, consensus clients, developer tools, RPC, and other projects that positively impact ZKsync.
Contributors from GitHub repositories with advanced blockchain technology that directly or indirectly contribute to ZKsync's success, including significant work related to blockchain, zero-knowledge proofs, developer tools, and developer education.
Educators providing training for developers and security researchers, and contributing to the ZKsync community center on GitHub.
Contributors to GitHub repositories focused on zero-knowledge proofs, Ethereum development tools, and open-source software.
Security researchers participating in audit competitions hosted by Cantina, Code4rena, and CodeHawks.
ZKsync community mods, ZK Credo translators, ZK Quest participants, and on-site event participants.
Additionally, 0.4875% of the total supply is allocated to a small group of experimental on-chain communities to explore new ways of organizing using tokens and NFTs. These communities include $DEGEN and $BONSAI airdrop recipients, Crypto the Game players, and holders of Pudgy and Milady.
The ZKsync snapshot date was March 24, and community members can check their airdrop eligibility on the Claim.zknation.io website, with claims starting next week until January 3, 2025. Eligible GitHub developers and ZKsync GitHub Discussion Helpers must link their addresses to their accounts by June 25. External projects, Protocol Guild, and ZKsync native project contributors will be able to claim starting June 24, 2024.
How are ZKsync tokens allocated?
The total supply of ZK tokens is 21 billion tokens, with community allocation accounting for 66.7%, ecosystem incentives for 19.9% (distributed by the ZKsync Foundation), investor allocation for 17.2%, team allocation for 16.1%, and Token Assembly allocation for 29.3%. Tokens allocated to investors and the team will be locked for the first year and then unlocked over a three-year period from June 2025 to June 2028.
ZKsync states that two-thirds (approximately 67%) of ZK tokens will be allocated to the community. Of this, 17.5% of the total supply will be distributed through a one-time airdrop, while the remaining community tokens will be allocated over time through ecosystem plans managed by the ZKsync Foundation and ZK Nation governance processes to support the evolving ecosystem.
