Linea: Matter Labs' application for the ZK trademark violates the development principles of Ethereum and the blockchain network convention
ChainCatcher news, Linea officials posted on the X platform stating that Matter Labs is the entity behind zkSync and has just applied for the "ZK" trademark as its exclusive intellectual property. Zero-knowledge (widely referred to as ZK in our industry) is a field of cryptographic research co-created by researchers around the world. Many are scaling Ethereum through the zkEVM Layer 2 network. Claiming ownership of the cryptographic branch used to develop permissionless, decentralized L2 execution environments under a legal framework violates the development principles of Ethereum and the conventions of the field we are in. We are here to promote the development of Ethereum, to make the world a better place by providing a censorship-resistant network that increases freedom for people. We support @StarkwareLTD's statement that Matter Labs should adhere to their mission and withdraw their trademark application for ZK.
