McLaren F1 Team launches a special edition livery for the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix
“McLaren SENNA” will be presented by OKX and Senna Global
On May 21, 2024, the McLaren F1 team announced that a special edition one-off racing livery inspired by driver Ayrton Senna will debut at the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix.
The “McLaren SENNA presented by OKX” event is a collaboration between McLaren Racing and its official partners OKX and Senna Global, aimed at celebrating the racing legend Ayrton Senna. Coinciding with the 30th anniversary of Senna's passing, this livery not only pays tribute to him but also commemorates his legendary life and the impact he had on McLaren and F1 racing. The color scheme of the livery is inspired by Senna's iconic helmet, featuring bright yellow, green, and blue, and will be showcased on the MCL38 car throughout the Monaco Grand Prix weekend.
Senna raced for the McLaren F1 team from 1988 to 1993 and is the team's most successful driver. He won a total of 41 Grand Prix races, 35 of which were during his time with McLaren, and he also secured three drivers' championships, contributing to the team’s four constructors' championships. Senna had a deep connection with Monaco, being dubbed the “King of Monaco,” where he achieved six victories, including five consecutive wins from 1989 to 1993. Therefore, the symbolic Monaco circuit (Circuit de Monaco) is the perfect choice for the McLaren team to honor Senna.
McLaren Automotive today also unveiled a limited edition McLaren Senna road car to pay homage to Senna's legendary story. This custom version, named “Senna Sempre,” incorporates design elements similar to the F1 livery and complements it. The car's livery was designed and hand-painted by McLaren's bespoke division, with color inspiration also drawn from Senna's helmet, combining yellow, green, and blue, while cleverly integrating a dot portrait of Senna and other related elements.
The McLaren team will also wear team apparel inspired by Senna during the race, with drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri donning custom race suits. Fans can also support the event and participate by purchasing a range of custom merchandise featuring the colors and McLaren team livery from the Senna era. The “Senna X Monaco” product line will be available at the McLaren Store.
Since leading virtual asset exchange and Web3 technology company OKX became the main partner of the McLaren F1 team, it has supported the global fan experience of the team, committed to providing projects and innovative products that enhance fan engagement. OKX will continue to work alongside the McLaren F1 team to bring more initiatives like the limited edition “Stealth Mode” livery design launched at the Singapore Grand Prix, or this special event commemorating Senna.
The 2024 Monaco Grand Prix will take place from May 24 to 26 at the Monaco circuit in Monte Carlo.
McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown stated: “The team is honored to commemorate and remember Senna's extraordinary life and racing legend through this livery. Senna is still regarded as one of the greatest icons in F1 racing and the most accomplished driver in McLaren's history. His remarkable achievements, contributions to the team, and the enduring legend he left behind have had a profound impact on McLaren. Therefore, we are proud to race in his colors of green, yellow, and blue on the track where we witnessed his greatest triumphs.”
“We are excited to collaborate with Senna Global, our official partner OKX, and our colleagues at McLaren Automotive to launch the ‘McLaren SENNA presented by OKX’ event. On the 30th anniversary of Senna's passing, the team chose to commemorate his life in Monaco, one of his favorite and most successful venues. We look forward to racing this vibrant and beautiful livery on the track this weekend.”
OKX Chief Marketing Officer Haider Rafique stated: “Our involvement in designing the Senna livery for the Monaco Grand Prix is not only a tribute to Senna but also a celebration of his glorious legacy and the profound impact he left on the racing world and McLaren. Senna inspired a whole generation, and OKX hopes to help the younger generation learn more about his legendary story. Through participating in this event, OKX aims to honor a legendary racing figure while engaging fans and participants in a vibrant and lively way, continuing the influence of his legacy in F1 and beyond.”
Bianca from Senna Global stated: “We are honored to collaborate with McLaren Racing and McLaren Automotive to launch these liveries in memory of Senna. Showcasing his iconic colors on both the race car and the road car is a fantastic way to commemorate Senna's life and legend. McLaren holds significant meaning for Senna, as he achieved many remarkable accomplishments with the team, many of which are still remembered today. The Monaco circuit also brought Senna many happy memories and victories, so seeing the Senna-liveried car racing on the Monaco track is particularly meaningful.”
