ChainCatcher news, according to CoinDesk, Consensys Senior Legal Counsel and Global Head of Regulatory Affairs Bill Hughes stated in an interview that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is likely to classify ETH under the investor protection laws.

In October 2023, the SEC allowed Ethereum-based futures ETFs to trade on securities exchanges. This means that the assets underlying the futures contracts are not securities. Since then, some events have occurred that seem to have led the SEC to change its stance.
