The lawyer for former FTX executive Ryan Salame requested the court for leniency, asking for an 18-month sentence
ChainCatcher news, according to the sentencing memorandum submitted on Tuesday, former FTX executive Ryan Salame pleaded guilty to charges of election fraud. His lawyer requested leniency from the court, asking for an 18-month sentence.
The lawyer stated that Salame was primarily responsible for handling customer bank deposits and fiat currency exchanges during his time at FTX and Alameda, participating in political donations and leading charitable projects in the Bahamas. The lawyer argued that Salame's role in the closed company was relatively peripheral, emphasizing his cooperative attitude, genuine remorse, efforts to address substance abuse issues, and the significant personal and financial losses he suffered due to the exchange's collapse.
They pointed out that Salame was the first to report the FTX fraud to Bahamian authorities after learning about it and provided documents to U.S. prosecutors without receiving a grand jury subpoena. Meanwhile, the lawyer also stated that the media criticism of FTX and Salame's association with Bankman-Fried would result in Salame being punished for life and unable to find work again.
