Tether CEO: Bitfinex data leak may be a false event, user funds are safe
ChainCatcher news, Tether CEO and Bitfinex CTO Paolo Ardoino posted on X platform stating that the Bitfinex data leak may be a false event, with the following specifics:
- The sample data contains 22,500 email and password records;
- Bitfinex does not store plaintext passwords, nor does it store 2FA passwords in plaintext;
- Out of the 22,500 emails, only 5,000 match Bitfinex users;
- The alleged hackers did not contact Bitfinex. If they had any real information, they would have reached out through Bitfinex's bug bounty, customer support tickets, etc.
"While we believe this is purely FUD, we will continue to review the information to ensure nothing is overlooked. Funds are safe."
