Token2049 Dubai | He Yi's Discussion on the Mission, Vision, and Values of Web3
Text by Jordan (Co-founder of UXUY)
This year marks UXUY's first participation in the Token2049 event in Dubai. A photo of Sister Yi sitting on the ground with others during the closed-door event at the Binance Clubhouse, engaging in a "fireside chat," has circulated a bit on social media. As one of the Binance Labs portfolio companies, UXUY was fortunate to meet Sister Yi for the second time during this trip to Dubai. From a Builder's perspective, I would like to record my personal insights using a few keywords.
Humility: Sister Yi, who has long identified as the "Chief Customer Service Officer of Binance," was poised and gracious on stage during the Mandarin KOL meeting, bowing to the audience twice in gratitude. Beyond the unique restraint and humility found in Chinese culture, she displayed remarkable composure and grace.
Iteration: The last time I heard Sister Yi give a speech in English was in November 2023, when I represented UXUY at an internal exchange organized by the Binance incubator. Now, six months later, I can clearly feel her leap in spoken English, in terms of fluency, pronunciation accuracy, and word choice—she seems like a different person. Such significant improvement is hard to achieve without deliberate practice. Even with a schedule packed with 15-minute intervals, her dedication to learning English is commendable.
Reading List: During a spontaneous Q&A session while sitting on the ground with everyone, Sister Yi referenced several classic and bestselling management books, including "Built to Last," "Principles," and "The Power of Engagement." This reflects her good reading habits. In an industry so close to money, where fortunes are made daily, maintaining inner conviction and regularly reading classics indicates a motivation and desire that transcends mere financial gain.
Additionally, in our conversations, terms like "ROI" and "everything is numbers" frequently appeared. This is a mindset about organizational operational efficiency and financial effectiveness that only a seasoned manager can develop through years of frontline experience. (I did some digging: "everything is numbers" comes from the ancient Greek philosopher and mathematician Pythagoras, the author of the Pythagorean theorem a² + b² = c².)
Commitment: As a fellow southerner, I have been accustomed to living in lush green environments. After just six days in Dubai, I found myself parched and weary, surrounded by yellow sand and haze. Yet Sister Yi, who resides here, remains vibrant and radiant. What I see is her commitment and dedication.
Sense of Mission: When a colleague asked her what drives her now, she philosophically replied: "There are two legacies in life: biological legacy—having children and passing on the genes, fulfilling the mission given by nature; and spiritual legacy—how the world is different because of me." In reality, she hopes to make a difference in the crypto industry, bringing some improvements to traditional financial rules and systems. When she said this, I could see the sincerity and aspiration in her eyes. Boss Yi confirmed that for seven years, she has repeated this sentiment every year. I choose to believe in this sincerity. Compared to the masses, a life with a sense of mission is clear and has a strong infectious power.
Since entering the industry, I have rarely heard people talk about MVV—Mission, Vision, Values. Perhaps it's because the industry itself is filled with various cultures, subcultures, and the complex intersections and derivatives of different ideologies. I once worried that others might think I wasn't Web3 enough if I mentioned these terms. But hearing Sister Yi repeatedly emphasize and uphold them, I suddenly realized: different paths lead to the same destination.
The process of advancing in life is also a process of demystification. After filtering out the unnecessary, what remains are simple and easily understood truths: stay humble, read more, keep iterating, and find and uphold your mission! It is well-known that Sister Yi's background is not one of shining glory. Although fate has favored her, her current achievements are closely related to her own cultivation. Achieving even one or two of the aforementioned points is no longer the mark of an ordinary person!
Let’s encourage each other!
