ChainCatcher news, according to Yonhap News Agency, about 7% of the candidates in the 22nd South Korean National Assembly election hold cryptocurrency. Yonhap analyzed the property declarations of 951 candidates running in 254 electoral districts across the country, including 698 local council candidates and 253 proportional representation candidates from 38 political parties, and found that as of the end of last year, 63 of them (6.6%) held virtual assets. The total value of virtual assets held by candidates and their spouses or children reached 1.093 billion won (approximately 810,000 USD), averaging around 17 million won per person (approximately 12,600 USD).

Each candidate declared an average of 4.5 different types of cryptocurrency. Bitcoin is the most prominent cryptocurrency, held by 29 candidates. Among them, nine candidates purchased only one Bitcoin, while the remaining candidates mixed investments in various altcoins (cryptocurrencies other than Bitcoin). Fifteen candidates also held Ethereum.
